It’s been two months since we reported that the former Full House star Dave Coulier had been diagnosed with a “very aggressive” form of cancer. Now, a sad update has come in about Dave’s cancer battle from his wife Melissa.

Dave’s ‘Difficult’ Cancer Battle

Dave announced back in November that he’s been diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He’s been undergoing chemotherapy ever since.

“He has some really tough days, and as the chemo has been accumulating it gets a little tougher and more difficult,” Melissa told WXYZ.

Dave, 65, has been leaning on his legendary sense of humor to get him through his cancer battle, but it must be unfair when the person who’s sick also has to be the person lightening the mood.

“He has such a positive attitude, and you need that in order to really fight it,” Melissa explained. “Every morning, if he’s feeling up for it, we try to put on a song and do a little dance party with the dogs, because when you do feel good, you have to celebrate that too.”

Dave Has Lost Loved Ones To Cancer

Many struggle to stay positive in tough times, but not Dave.

“I think it’s just innately in him. He has had a lot of loss in his life when it comes to having to deal with cancer. He lost his mother, his sister, his niece. His other sister had it,” Melissa said. “I think for him, he takes every stride and really pulls strength from seeing the women that were so close in his life to powering through it, and he just wants to honor them.”

In the end, Dave is also feeling the love from his friends and fans. This is helping him in his cancer battle as well.

“He’s so beloved, and so that really helps,” Melissa said. “Everyone is really rallying around all of us.”

Dave’s Cancer Diagnosis

Dave shocked his fans back in November when he told People Magazine that he was diagnosed with this “very aggressive” form of cancer. He was stunned at the time, as he thought he’d just been suffering from an upper respiratory infection.

“I went from, I got a little bit of a head cold to I have cancer, and it was pretty overwhelming,” he admitted. “This has been a really fast roller coaster ride of a journey.”

Dave and his wife were determined to fight his cancer “head-on.”

“We all kind of put our heads together and said, ‘Okay, where are we going?’” he recalled. “And they had a very specific plan for how they were going to treat this.”

“I looked at how those words affected [Melissa] and I thought, ‘you know what, I’m going to be strong throughout this, not just for me, but I’m going to be strong for her,'” he continued.

Thankfully, Dave soon got some good news when his bone marrow test came back clear.

“At that point, my chances of curable went from something low to 90% range,” he explained. “And so that was a great day.”
