The legendary actor and director Clint Eastwood celebrated his 96th birthday on Sunday, May 31. In the wake of this landmark occasion, it’s been revealed that Eastwood has officially retired after decades of success in Hollywood.
Eastwood Retires At 96
Immediately before his 96th birthday, Eastwood’s 58 year-old son Kyle, who is a professional musician, confirmed that his father has retired. This means that Eastwood’s 2024 movie Juror No. 2, which he directed, will be his final film.
“I have a lot of good memories of working with him,” Kyle said. “Now he’s retired, he’s 95 years old. But I’ve been very lucky to be able to work with him on a lot of films.”
This came as a shock to many, including the Sully screenwriter Todd Komarnicki. Indeed, just last year, Komarnicki had expressed his belief that Eastwood would never retire.
“I can’t imagine him retiring,” Komarnicki told Daily Express at the time. “I think it’s more likely that he would die on set at 102 then retire.”
Eastwood’s History
Eastwood was born in San Francisco, California on May 31, 1930. Just before college, Eastwood was drafted into the Army, though he never saw combat. Instead, he worked as a swimming instructor at California’s Ft. Ord. After being discharged in 1953, Eastwood moved to Los Angeles to pursue his Hollywood dreams.
Eastwood ended up enrolling at Los Angeles City College. After just three semesters there, he a $75-a-week contract with Universal. Eastwood’s big break came in 1959, when he was cast as Rowdy Yates on the hit CBS series Rawhide.
Once Rawhide came to an end in the mid-1960s, Italian director Sergio Leone offered him his first Western role, as Joe in the 1964 movie A Fistful of Dollars. The film was a huge hit, and Eastwood reprised his role in the sequels For a Few Dollars More (1965) and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966).
Now established as a star in front of the camera, Eastwood made his directorial debut with the thriller Play Misty for Me in 1971. Later that year, Eastwood directed portions of the action movie Dirty Harry, which he also starred in.
The rest, as they say, is history. Indeed, for decades to come, Eastwood was one of the top actors and directors in Hollywood. He won the Oscar for Best Director for his 1992 Western movie Unforgiven, which also won Best Picture. Eastwood later won Best Director again for the 2004 film Million Dollar Baby, another movie that also won Best Picture.
Eastwood’s final Oscar nomination came for Best Picture for his 2014 movie American Sniper. He is retiring with 73 acting credits and 45 directorial credits to his name, according to IMDB.
Eastwood’s Personal Life
In his personal life, Eastwood has fathered eight children by six different women. His oldest daughter Laurie was born in 1954. Eastwood was unaware of her birth, and she was placed up for adoption. Laurie and Eastwood reconnected decades later, and they enjoy a close relationship. She even joined him at the 2004 Oscars, and she attended the 2018 premiere of Eastwood’s movie The Mule with her other siblings.
Eastwood then had two children Kyle, 58, and Alison, 54, with his first wife Maggie Johnson, 94. They were married from 1953 until they divorced in 1984. Eastwood and Johnson maintain a close relationship, and she also attended the premiere of The Mule.

Though Kyle acted in a few of his father’s movies, he ultimately chose to pursue music.
“I think I decided I loved music more than acting,” he told SUR in English in 2021. “I’ve always loved it; it’s always been a passion of mine.”
Eastwood has reportedly always supported Kyle’s musical passions.
“I think he appreciates my music,” Kyle told the Belfast Telegraph in 2014. “We’ve written a few things together, and anytime we’re in the same part of the world, he tries to come by and catch the band when he can. He’s happy that I’ve found music and that I’ve dedicated myself to it.”
Meanwhile, Alison is an actress and director in her own right. She even played Eastwood’s daughter in The Mule. Like her father, Alison has moved into directing. She made her directorial debut in 2007 with her movie Rails and Ties.
“It was wonderful,” Alison previously said of her father’s mentorship. “He’s not a man of many words. He doesn’t get chatty. Instead of telling me anything, he let me be a fly on the wall and watch him at a different level. It was his way of being helpful, by showing me how he worked.”
During his marriage to Johnson, Eastwood had a years-long affair with the Hollywood stuntwoman Roxanne Tunis. She gave birth to Eastwood’s daughter Kimber, 61, in 1964. Kimber is a successful makeup artist who has worked on shows like Wheel of Fortune and Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Eastwood Welcomes More Children
In 1986, Scott Eastwood was born to Eastwood and flight attendant Jacelyn Reeves. Scott is a hugely successful actor who has starred in movies like The Longest Ride, Snowden, The Fate of the Furious, Pacific Rim and Suicide Squad. He also starred in his father’s movie Gran Torino. Scott has long credited his father for teaching him the value of hard work.
“My dad was always super-active and got me in the gym at a young age,” Scott told People Magazine in 2015. “He wanted me to be health-conscious. Healthy body, healthy mind; that’s what he preached to me.”
“My dad was pretty old school,” he continued. “I’ve had a job since I can remember and it’s not like he was like, ‘Hey, what kind of car do you want?’ My first car was a ’91 Ford Crown Victoria that was $1,000. And I had to buy every car after that. I had to do it all.”
In 1988, Eastwood and Reeves welcomed their second child, a daughter named Kathryn Ann Eastwood. She went on to be named Miss Golden Globe in 2005. Kathryn has also become an actress. She had a prominent role in the 2014 movie Jersey Boys, which her father directed.
Eastwood’s Youngest Children
Eastwood’s seventh child is Francesca Eastwood, 32. She was born in 1993 to Eastwood and the Titanic star Frances Fisher, who he dated for a few years. Francesca starred in the reality show Mrs. Eastwood & Company in 2012. The next year, she was named Miss Golden Globe.
Like many of her siblings, Francesca has also gone into acting. She had a small role in Jersey Boys. She’s also acted in shows like Fargo and movies like Old.
Eastwood’s youngest child is his daughter Morgan Eastwood, 29. She was born in 1996 to Eastwood and his second wife Dina Ruiz, who he was married to from 1996 until they divorced in 2014. Morgan also starred in Mrs. Eastwood & Company with her mom and half sister Francesca. She’s acted in two of her father’s movies, Million Dollar Baby and Changeling. Morgan has also had experience in executive producing and singing.
Eastwood’s Last Relationship
Eastwood’s most recent relationship was with Christina Sandera, who was 33 years his junior. They began dating after his second divorce was finalized in 2014. The couple met when she was working as a hostess at Clint’s Mission Ranch Hotel and Restaurant in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.
Eastwood and Sandera made their red carpet debut together at the Academy Awards in 2015. Though they kept much of their life together private, Christina was Clint’s usual red carpet date in the subsequent years.
Eastwood and Sandera remained together for a decade. Sadly, Sandera died suddenly of a heart attack in July of 2024. She was only 61 years-old.
“Christina was a lovely, caring woman,” Eastwood told The Hollywood Reporter after her death. “I will miss her very much.”
In the wake of Sandera’s death, it is believed that Eastwood is currently single.
Eastwood has certainly lived an incredible life both personally and professionally. While we will miss his movies dearly, Eastwood also deserves to enjoy a relaxing retirement now that he is 96.
