Amy Slaton, who stars on the reality television show 1,000-Lb. Sisters, got a little more reality than she wanted after she was arrested at a zoo in Tennessee on Monday. She has since been charged with drug possession and child endangerment.
Slaton Arrested
Deputies with the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department were called to Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo, which is located around 80 miles from Memphis. The call came in on September 2 after a guest was reportedly bitten by a camel.
When the deputies arrived, however, they “were immediately overtaken by suspicious odors coming from the guest’s vehicle.”
Slaton was ultimately arrested with Brian Scott Lovvorn, who was also in the vehicle. They were both charged with illegal possession of schedule I, illegal possession of schedule IV, and two counts of child endangerment. They were then each booked into the Crockett County Jail.
“The charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct and not evidence,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. “The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law.”
No further details are available about who was actually bitten by the camel. It is also unclear at this time if Slaton and Lovvorn remain in custody.

Slaton’s Difficult Divorce
This comes at a difficult time for Slaton. In March of last year, her husband Michael Halterman filed for divorce after four years of marriage.
The divorce has taken a messy turn, with Halterman asking the judge to “enter a civil restraining order” that would keep both parties “500 feet from one another at all times.” He also wanted to make sure this order made them stay “500 feet from the residence of the other party.”
They share two sons Gage Deon, 4, and Glenn Allen, 2. It’s unclear if one or both of the boys were in the car during her arrest. After Glenn’s birth, Slaton had talked about how much motherhood means to her during an episode of her reality show.
“My heart is full,” she gushed. “Being a mom is what I’ve wanted to do since I was 5 years old and I’ve always wanted two kids. Our family is finally complete. We can put us in a frame and hang us on the wall now.”
Slaton’s divorce was finalized in September of last year. In December of 2023, Slaton admitted that after a tough year, her mental health had been “the worst it’s ever been.”
“And it wasn’t just affecting me, it was affecting Gage and Glenn,” she confessed. “So it was just rough.”

Slaton’s Reality Show And Weight Loss
When 1000-Lb. Sisters premiered back in 2020, Slaton weighed over 400 pounds. She stars on the show with her older sister Tammy, who weighed over 700 pounds in season 1.
After undergoing undergoing gastric bypass surgery, Slaton has since dropped 136 pounds, currently putting her at 275 pounds. Tammy has reportedly lost 500 pounds after undergoing bariatric surgery. Her current weight is around 225 pounds.
Few details about the specifics behind Slaton’s arrest have been made available at this time. Indeed, it’s important to remember that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. However, should Slaton be found to have had drugs in her car with her children, we can only hope that she’s held accountable.
Perhaps this could be the wakeup call that Slaton desperately needs!
