The country music legend Reba McEntire is speaking out to address rumors that she called Taylor Swift “an entitled little brat.”

McEntire Shuts Down Rumors

“Please don’t believe everything you see on the Internet. I did not say this,” McEntire, 68, wrote on social media alongside a screenshot of a claim that she had called Swift “an entitled little brat” at Super Bowl LVIII.

“Taylor is a wonderful artist, strong role model and has done so much good for so many people and the music industry,” she added.

This rumor appears to have been started by the Facebook account America Loves Liberty, which claims to be a “satire” account that warns that “nothing on this page is real.”

The account’s original post read, “Reba McIntire (sic) talks about how disappointed she was to look up at the big screen while performing The National Anthem, only to see Taylor Swift laughing and drinking and making a mockery of the event. ‘I let her have it afterward. She’s an entitled little brat'”

America Loves Liberty Issues Clarification

America Loves Liberty responded to McEntire by issuing their own clarification that the story is false.

“Oh my. Reba McEntire herself responded to our nonsense,” the account said. “Thank you, Ma’am. We love your work. The article is as silly as the headline for a reason.”

“It’s not supposed to be believable,” the comment continued. “Our fans were staunchly on your side long before this post. Dearest new fans: Reba isn’t a victim of some horrible rumor. Reba fell for satire. Reba can’t read past a headline.”

Fans were quick to point out to McEntire that she probably should have known that this was satire, according to The New York Post.

“It’s so funny how many people just blindly believe a meme,” one social media user commented. “Especially one that mocks their preconceived notions.”

“They spelled your name McIntire. So made up story AND a lazy proofreader,” a second person added, with a third writing, “As soon as I saw this stupid story, I knew it was lies. @reba leads the industry with class, she would never do anything like this. People need to get a life.”

McEntire’s Previous Swift Comments

McEntire performed “The Star Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl last month while Swift, 34, attended the game to support her boyfriend, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, whose team ultimately won the game. Before the Super Bowl, McEntire spoke out to joke about Swift’s relationship with Kelce.

“Oh, my gosh, I am so mad at her because I had a crush on him,” McEntire told Today with a laugh back in October. “Now I can’t have a crush anymore because he’s dating her.”

This was of course all in jest, as McEntire is currently in a very happy relationship with the actor Rex Linn, who she’s been dating since 2020. McEntire doubled down on the joke by saying that she was “so devastated,” describing Kelce as her “boyfriend that cheated on” her.

“When he and Taylor started dating, Rex said, ‘Your boyfriend’s got another girlfriend,'” McEntire quipped. “I said, ‘Rub it in.'”

McEntire also praised Swift’s singing abilities in an interview back in December.

“The very first time I ever heard Taylor sing live was on the CMA Awards, she was singing ‘Tim McGraw,’ playing the guitar,” McEntire recalled.  “I’m like, ‘This girl’s gonna be a huge star.'”

“I was impressed,” she added.

While we’re glad to see that this has been cleared up, perhaps McEntire should be a little more careful about what she believes on the internet. That’s a lesson that all of us would do well to remember, as some things online really are meant to be satire!
