The two-time Oscar-winning Hollywood star Sally Field is speaking out this week to reveal why she’ll never marry again.

Field Won’t Marry Again

“I was never really good at picking a partner for myself,” Field, 77, said while appearing on the podcast “Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfus.”

Though Field has been married twice and was in a longterm relationship with the late star Burt Reynolds in the 1970s, she feels that each of these men “were just not a good match” for her.

“I can’t imagine having any interest in getting married again,” Field admitted. “It would certainly all depend on meeting somebody I wanted to spend more than 37 seconds with. And I can’t imagine that either! So I don’t know.”

Field’s Romantic History

Fox News reported that Field was first married to Steven Craig from 1968 until they divorced in 1975, and they had two sons together. She then began dating her Smokey and the Bandit co-star Reynolds in 1977, engaging in a tumultuous on-again-off-again relationship with him for the next five years.

Once that ended, Field married Alan Greisman in 1984, going on to have one son with him before they divorced in 1994.

“Several people that I was dating, or around, would say, ‘Why can’t you treat me the way you treat your sons?’ ‘Uh, because you’re not my son!’” Field explained. “I’ve just never been good at picking a person, a partner, to be with who would be loving and know me and not want to change me and also be challenging to me.”

Field believes that raising her oldest son Peter, who US Weekly reported has gone on to write movies like Top Gun: Maverick and The Batman, with helping her to feel capable to stand on her own and be single.

“There was something in me that felt so fiercely about him that I felt, ‘If I can take care of him, I can take care of myself. And goddammit, I’m going to take care of him. I don’t care if I go down,’” she said. “So it started to connect with a fierceness in me that I didn’t recognize.”

Field Blasts Reynolds

While Field has stayed quiet about her marriages over the years, presumably for the sake of her son, she’s frequently said negative things about Reynolds and her time with him. After  Reynolds, who died in 2018, described her as the “love of [his] life” during a November of 2015 interview, she was quick to fire back by claiming that this was not the case.

“He was not someone I could be around. He was just not good for me in any way,” she said immediately after his death. “And he had somehow invented in his rethinking of everything that I was more important to him than he had thought, but I wasn’t. He just wanted to have the thing he didn’t have.”

While appearing on “Watch What Happens Live” in December of 2022, Field named Reynolds as her worst on-screen kisser.

“It was just not something he did very well,” she said, adding that “it was just a lot of drooling.”

While it’s great that Field has the confidence to stand on her own, it would also be nice to see her find love again later in life. Perhaps she should open her heart to that, as the love of her life could still be out there just waiting to be found!
