Late Night With The Devil

Late Night With the Devil is a horror film with a plot taking place during a live television broadcast in 1977.

The movie is presented as found footage snippets that investigate an unexplained event occurring during the sixth season of a popular variety late-night talk show.

It was released on Friday, March 22nd. It earned $2.8 million across 1,034 venues, setting a record for the distributor, IFC Films.

“This weekend’s release of ‘Late Night With the Devil’ set fire to our old opening record,” said Scott Shooman, head of AMC Networks Films, which encompasses IFC, according to Fox Business. “[It] continues to showcase that there is still potential for highly reviewed, intelligent auteur films in movie theaters across all genres.”

It was receipts for Sunday, however, that truly raised eyebrows.

According to Variety, “On the independent scene, Late Night With the Devil took sixth place … including (and you can’t make this up) $666,666 on Sunday.”

What better gift for marketing a horror movie than to be able to tell movie-goers that it earned $666,666 for one day? Insinuating that there might be some sort of occult power behind the film could very well make it a hit..

The film was directed by brothers Cameron and Colin Cairnes and premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival.

The Number Of The Beast

If those sales numbers weren’t enough to give you a moment of pause, we add this.

Late Night With the Devil’s release date also happened to be on the 42-year anniversary of heavy metal band Iron Maiden releasing their third studio album.

The name of that album? The Number of the Beast.

Who could ever forget the opening to that song which defines that number:

Woe to you, oh earth and sea
For the Devil sends the beast with wrath
Because he knows the time is short
Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast
For it is a human number
Its number is six hundred and sixty-six

– Iron Maiden

Late Night with the Devil is currently in theaters, and it will also later release on the horror streaming service Shudder on April 19.
