Candace Cameron Bure, who is one of the only openly conservative Christian stars in Hollywood, has announced that she will be playing a U.S. Army reservist and orthopedic physician in “My Christmas Hero,” which is her next Christmas movie for Great American Family.

Cameron Bure To Play Veteran

In the movie, Cameron Bure will play Dr. Nicole Ramsey, a character who devotes her life to serving military service members and their families at the Joint Military Base in Lacey, Washington, home of I Corps and the 62nd Airlift Wing. Over the Christmas holiday that is portrayed in the film, Dr. Ramsey is trying to honor a special fallen soldier while also bringing healing to her own family that could not be needed more.

“We are proud to tell a story that honors our U.S. veterans this Christmas season. From WW2 to present day veterans, we shine the spotlight on their heroic work as well as aftercare needs,” Cameron Bure, 47, told Deadline. “We have a talented cast and crew and are thrilled to bring it to our Great American Family audience.”

Cameron Bure Joins Great American Family

This comes one year after Cameron Bure left the Hallmark Channel to sign a deal with GAC Media to develop, produce and star in movies and TV shows for Great American Family and GAC Living. The deal also saw Cameron Bure take out an executive role with the network that involves her overseeing and curating programming.

“I’m very excited to develop heartwarming family and faith-filled programming and make the kind of stories my family and I love to watch,” Cameron Bure said in April of last year, according to US Weekly.

“I am constantly looking for ways that I can inspire people to live life with purpose,” she added. “GAC fits my brand perfectly; we share a vision of creating compelling wholesome content for an audience who wants to watch programming for and with the whole family.”

Cameron Bure Reveals Why She Left Hallmark

Cameron Bure further opened up about this move in September of 2022.

“The truth is I’ve been under contract with Hallmark for a very, very long time. And those have been absolutely wonderful,” Cameron Bure told Variety. “It just so happened that my contract was expiring when Great American Family started up. So we did not start having those discussions until we were well into negotiations with Hallmark Channel for renewing.”

“And as every business person knows, you’ve got to do what’s right for contracts,” she continued. “It didn’t work out with Hallmark and so we started talking to Bill.”

Cameron Bure was referring to Bill Abbott, the president of Great American Family.

Cameron Bure went on to say that stories about veterans would be a priority for her at her new network.

“I love hearing stories about our veterans, about our servicemen and women, those reunions when they come home,” she explained. “We want to showcase all of that — all of the good that’s going on and we want to tug on those heartstrings.”

Cameron Bure actually has love and respect for the servicemen and women who put their lives on the line for the rest of us every day, so unlike most Hollywood stars, we can trust her to tell the story of a veteran the way it should be told. We can’t wait to see what she brings to “My Christmas Hero” when it comes out later this year!
