In the crazy world of Hollywood, it’s rare to find a celebrity who is revealed to be a truly good person. That’s why it came as such a welcome surprise to learn that the A-list star Brad Pitt allowed his 105 year-old neighbor to live on his $39 year-old compound rent-free for many years.

Pitt’s A Good Neighbor

Daily Mail reported that Pitt, 59, sold his Los Feliz, California $39 million compound last month after owning it for nearly 30 years. He’d bought the property back in 1994 for $1.7 million from the Elvira star Cassandra Peterson, who became his next-door neighbor after the sale. In a new interview with People Magazine, Peterson explained that Pitt built up his compound by buying surrounding properties.

“I think there were like 22 houses houses that were contiguous to the edge of the property,” she said. “And every time they came up he bought one.”

One of these properties belonged to an elderly man who was in his 90s, and Pitt ended up making a deal with him allowing him to stay in the home that he’d known for years.

“He was very, very kind to the husband. His wife passed away and the husband, John, lived there,” Peterson recalled. “I know that Brad allowed him to live there without paying anything until he died.”

“It was kind of funny because John lived to be 105,” she continued, adding that John “just kept living forever.”

“I imagine Brad was thinking well, you know, he can live there till he dies, which might be any minute now,” she said.

Pitt Was ‘Always Kind And Sweet’

Pitt was also a good neighbor to Peterson, who described him as being “always kind and sweet.” In one funny memory, Peterson remembered seeing Pitt preparing for his role in the 1999 movie Fight Club when she was out walking her dogs in their neighborhood.

“I go past Brad’s garage and he’s in there wearing only sweatpants,” she said. “He’s got on boxing gloves and he is punching a bag. I swear I almost fainted.”

“I remember he goes, ‘Hey, how are you?’ and I’m like, ‘Huh?’ I couldn’t talk. I was turning red. I felt like I was fainting,” she continued. “He’s just so stunningly, stunningly handsome — and nice, to top it off.”

Peterson Sells Home To Pitt

Peterson previously said that during her early meetings with Pitt when she was trying to sell the property in 1994, she warned him about “a lot of weird things [that] have been going on there in the house since we moved in.”

“He was very excited about that,” she said last month, according to The Independent. “He thought that was really cool.”

Peterson and her husband even had a priest come to perform an exorcism at the home after seeing ghost-like spirits making their way around the house and “floating around at the bottom of the pool”

“We were telling Brad all about that and he loved it,” Peterson added. “I mean, there are not many buyers who that would be a selling point for, but he was like: ‘Oh, that’s so awesome.’ I love that he appreciated the house so much.”

It’s nice to see that Pitt appears to be just as good a person in real life as many of the heroic characters he’s played onscreen. What he did for his 105 year-old neighbor shows what a big heart Pitt has, and that’s a rare thing to find in Hollywood!
