The World Athletics Council is taking a stand for women by banning male athletes who pretend to be women from taking part in women’s events.

World Athletics was originally the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) that changed its name in 2011 to become the International Association of Athletics Federations to eventually becoming World Athletics in 2019. It is the governing body for the sport of track and field athletics.
The World Athletics Council “is responsible for all decisions related to the sport of athletics, as well as the conduct and management of the sport and its disciples.”

The decision, which was passed by the head of World Athletics, Lord Sebastian Coe. to ban “transgender” athletes will become official at the end of March.
According to the BBC, previous rules regarding trans-athletes required that transgender female athletes “reduce their amount of blood testosterone to a maximum of 5nmol/L and stay under this threshold continuously for a period of 12 months before competition.” While these original rules were meant to even the playing field between women and men competing as “trans-women,” it became overwhelmingly clear that biological males still had significant biological advantages over their female competitors.
Lord Coe stated that the move was “guided by the overarching principle which is to protect the female category.”

While this announcement would make some feel that the tides are turning against the cultural war to objectively ruin the integrity of women’s sports, the World Athletics Council did capitulate by saying that “We’re not saying no forever,” and that they’d continue to research “trans inclusion.”
“Decisions are always very difficult when they involve conflicting needs and rights of different groups,” said Lord Coe. “But we continue to take the view that we must maintain fairness for female athletes above all other considerations.”
Lord Coe continued, saying, “We will be guided in this by the science around physical performance and male advantage which will inevitably develop over the coming years. As more evidence becomes available, we will review our position, but we believe the integrity of the female category in athletics is paramount.”

In the United States, more Americans have begun to show that the push for transgender athletes to compete in professional sporting events has gone too far. A major poll conducted last year by the Washington Post and the University of Maryland showed that roughly 58% of participants were opposed to transgender athletes taking part in women’s sports at the collegiate level.
Additionally, 68% of responders agreed that men, even those who have undergone hormonal injections, have an undisputed biological advantage over women.
