UFC On ESPN: The Return Of Holly Holm To Action
Former UFC champion Holly Holm looks to rekindle her fire and once again make a run at the title starting Saturday.
The last time we saw Holly Holm was in May, as she dropped a split decision to Ketlen Vieira.
Holm returned after nearly two years away, and looked a little rusty in the process.
Now, she steps back inside the Octagon this Saturday night to meet Yana Santos at UFC on ESPN. The bout serves as the co-main event inside the AT&T Center in San Antonio.
Holm is a legend in combat sports, as she is the only fighter to have won a boxing title and a belt in the UFC. She pulled what many called the biggest upset in MMA when she topped Ronda Rousey for gold back in 2015 with a head-kick finish.
From there, though, it has been a lot of ups and downs for the now 41-year-old. Holm dropped the title to Miesha Tate in 2016 and has gone just 4-6 since with losses to Valentina Shevchenko, Germaine de Randamie, Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes.
That is obviously one of the toughest slates of bouts for any fighter – male or female – in the sport. Her 14-6 record does include eight knockout wins, adding to a mark of 33-2-3 comprised in boxing with nine KO finishes.
Santos, a former Invicta FC champion, is coming off a loss to Irene Aldana that dropped her to 14-6 overall and 4-3 with the UFC. She took on Cyborg back in 2018 for the title and does hold a catchweight win over Vieira from 2021.
