Tom Brady Returning To Sports World Weeks After Retiring From NFL

Weeks after he retired from the NFL for the second time, Tom Brady has announced that he’s already making his return to the sports world. This time, however, he’s doing so in an entirely different sport from football.

Brady Makes Major Announcement

E! Online reported that Brady has announced that he’s acquired ownership interest in the WNBA team the Las Vegas Aces.

“I got really special news to share today,” the 45 year-old former quarterback said in an Instagram video. “I’m excited to announce I’m gonna become part of the Las Vegas Aces organization. It was a matter of time before I was back in the building with some of the greatest athletes in the world.”

Brady went on to share the personal reason he has for doing this.

“I grew up with three older sisters,” he explained. “They were all incredible athletes in their own right. They were role models to me. It’s where my love of women’s sports began. I tagged along. I was the annoying little brother to all their games. And they were the best athletes in our house, and they’re still a great inspiration to me.”

Brady ‘Ready To Contribute’

Brady concluded by saying that he’s very excited to be part of the Aces family.

“I admire all the work the Aces players and staff and what the WNBA continues to do to grow the sport and to empower the future generations of female athletes, one I have in my own family,” he said. “And I’m ready to contribute in any way possible as a member of such a great organization. What an honor.”

“I can’t wait to watch these amazing talented players bring another championship to Las Vegas,” Brady concluded. “LFG!”

Aces And WNBA Respond

Brady was first linked to the Aces when he was spotted on the sidelines at one of their games in May of last year.

“After seeing the outstanding quality of play, coupled with the excitement and passion of the Las Vegas Aces fans,” the team said in a statement. “Tom knew he wanted to be a part of the organization.”

“Tom Brady is a win not only for the Aces, and the WNBA, but for women’s professional sports as a whole,” Mark Davis, owner of the Aces as well as the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders, added in a statement of his own that was obtained by ESPN

WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert spoke out about this as well, saying, “We are pleased to see the incredible momentum around the WNBA continue as evidenced by our recent league and team equity deals.”

“We look forward to welcoming Tom Brady as an owner once the league process and approvals are complete,” she continued. “We have seen Tom Brady courtside at our games and are thrilled he recognizes the value of supporting women’s basketball and the WNBA.”

This comes at a difficult time for Brady, as he is still coming to terms with his divorce from Gisele Bündchen, who he was married to from 2009 until they divorced in October of last year. Perhaps taking partial ownership of this WNBA team will provide a distraction for Brady as well as something for him to occupy his time with in the wake of retiring from the NFL.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
