The radically liberal comedian Joy Behar shocked everyone on Friday when she spoke out against the left for trying to censor the literary classic “To Kill A Mockingbird.”

Behar Defends ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’

Fox News reported that during the latest segment of “Joy’s Banned Book Club,” which sees Behar recommend a book that she feels is being unfairly censored by society, the 80 year-old “The View” co-host described “To Kill A Mockingbird” as “a timely-as-ever novel about racial inequality and the loss of innocence. It has been one of the most frequently challenged books in the United States since its publication in 1960.”

Behar went on to say that the book has “been labeled everything from ‘immoral’ to ‘improper,’ due to themes of sexual assault and the use of profanity and racial slurs. But it’s a great book.” She then lamented that “recently the book was removed as required reading for ninth graders” in a school district in Washington state.

Behar Turns On Left

Not stopping there, Behar proceeded to admit that it is liberals who are trying to ban this book.

“Of course, controversies surrounding censorship don’t only come from the right,” she acknowledged. “Left-leaning arguments against the book include concerns that reading racial slurs aloud could make students feel uncomfortable or even threatened.”

“The book has also been used by teachers and parents all over the world as a valuable tool for discussing race, justice, compassion and humanity itself, and the movie is great, too,” Behar continued. “Despite decades of censorship attempts, ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’s’ popularity endures. It has been translated into 40 languages and has sold over 40 million copies worldwide.”

Behar concluded by quoting the former President George W. Bush, who she frequently spoke out against during his time in office.

“In 2007, President George W. Bush himself called the novel ‘a gift to the entire world and a book that will be read and studied forever,'” she said. “And who am I to argue with George W. Bush?”

Behar Has ‘No Plans’ To Retire

Behar was one of the original hosts of “The View” when it premiered back in 1997, and though she was fired in 2013, she was brought back two years later and has remained on the show ever since. She celebrated her 80th birthday in October of last year, but despite this, she has “no plans” to retire.

“I just signed a contract so I’ll be here for a while,” Behar told People Magazine around the time of her birthday. “I have no plans to retire.”

“It’s really, you know, something that is an important show in many ways,” she went on to say of the ABC talk show. “Sometimes I don’t believe that, as I’ve been here since the beginning, but we’re the most-watched show in daytime. Most-watched! I’m happy to be a part of it. So no, I’m not going anywhere. I’m having a good time.”

Behar typically uses her platform to spout her radically liberal nonsense, so it was refreshing to see her admit that the left can be in the wrong too sometimes with the latest segment of her “Joy’s Banned Book Club.” We can only hope that this signifies that Behar is about to turn over a new leaf and start admitting more faults about the left!
