The faith-based movie Jesus Revolution, which stars Kelsey Grammer, has become the highest grossing movie for LionsGate Films since 2019 after crossing the $40 million mark at the box office.

Jesus Revolution Is A Massive Hit

Fox News reported that Jesus Revolution is officially LionsGate’s most successful film since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down movie theaters in 2020.

“The numbers are incredible, especially coming out of a pandemic,” producer Kevin Downes told Christian Headlines, adding that moviegoers eager for faith films are “not going away.”

The synopsis of Jesus Revolution reads, “In the 1970s, Greg Laurie and a sea of young people descend on sunny Southern California to redefine truth through all means of liberation.”

“Inadvertently, Laurie meets a charismatic street preacher and a pastor who open the doors to a church to a stream of wandering youth,” it continues. “What unfolds is a counterculture movement that becomes the greatest spiritual awakening in American history.”

Pastor Laurie has spoken out to say that the success of Jesus Revolution shows that audiences are hungry for Christian movies.

“The timing of this [film] is incredible, and I believe God’s hand has been on it from the beginning,” he said, adding that it “seems to be resonating with everyone. Believers and nonbelievers. Young and old…God is still in the business of changing lives.”

Pastor Laurie went on to say that the film reflects a cultural moment of “desperation” that has people searching for both meaning and hope.

“What happened to us some 50 years ago can still happen for people today,” he continued.

Kelsey Grammer’s Role

Daily Mail reported Grammer appears in the movie as Pastor Chuck Smith, who helped to spread Christianity throughout the United States in the 1960s and 1970s.

“It’s really uplifting. It’s a good movie,” he said of the film. “My wife and I saw it together. She was just dissolved in tears and said, ‘It’s the best thing you’ve ever done.'”

Slipping into the role of the Christian pastor was easy for Grammer, who is devoted to God himself.

“It strikes me, you know, I probably have been preparing for [this role] all my life, honestly,” Grammer told Fox News. “It was a pretty seamless transition into playing Chuck.”

“I’m kind of a Bible guy,” he added. “I’ve been reading the Bible all my life. I turn to it for prayer, for reflection, for information, and I just always have. It’s just always been sort of at my fingertips throughout my life, ever since I was a boy. So I have a relationship with the Word of God, as they call it, that it was probably akin to what Chuck Smith’s relationship was with it.”

Christianity Helped Grammer Through ‘Tragic Times’

Grammer has also said that his Christian faith has helped him through the tough times in his life.

“I’ve had hiccups. I’ve had some tragic times. I have wrestled with those and worked my way through them,” he told USA Today

“Sometimes rejecting faith, sometimes rejecting God even, in a period of being pretty angry about it,” he continued. “Like, ‘Where were you?’ That kind of thing. But I have come to terms with it and have found great peace in my faith and in Jesus. It’s not cavalier – Jesus made a difference in my life. That’s not anything I’ll apologize for.”

Jesus Revolution shocked Hollywood in its opening weekend when it raked in an incredible $15 million after analysts predicted that it would only make $6 to $7 million. The success of this movie really does show that Christian movies are needed now more than ever, so Hollywood should take notice.
