Former Las Vegas Raiders Tight End Foster Moreau Announces Cancer Diagnosis: “I’ll Go Kick This Thing’s A**”

25-year-old Las Vegas Raiders tight end Foster Moreau made the heartbreaking announcement yesterday that the free agent would be taking a step back from the world of football to combat the greatest challenge of his life— cancer.

The revelation was discovered while he was visiting the New Orleans Saints to discuss possibly playing with them next season when the symptoms became noticeable during a physical with medical staff.

“Throughout somewhat of a miraculous process, this Free Agency period has been life changing for me,” Moreau posted to his official Twitter account. “During a routine physical conducted by the Saint’s medical team down in New Orleans, I’ve come to learn that I have Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and will be stepping away from football at this time to fight this new opponent: Cancer.”

“I’m grateful for the support and thankful for the people who have stood firm with me,” he added. “There hasn’t been a single step I’ve taken without hundreds of people lighting the path before me, and I will continue to seek their guidance. That being said, I’ll go kick this thing’s ass and get back to doing what I love! AMDG!”

According to the Mayo Clinic, Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a form of cancer which affects the lymphatic system, which is essential the body’s immune system which fights germs. This cancer is the result of white blood cells which grow uncontrollably, causing “swollen lymph nodes and growths throughout the body.”

Depending on how far along his cancer is, there are treatments available which can help those inflicted make a full recovery eventually if treated properly.

According to research by the American Cancer Society, the five-year survival rating for those with this specific cancer is at an optimistic 89%. A big factor in a individual’s odds of survival also largely depends on the person’s health.

Foster had a career-high of 33 receptions last season alone with the Raiders, and became a free agent at the beginning of the league’s new year when he was looking forward to moving on to another team.
