The wrestling world is still buzzing about John Cena and his recent Monday Night RAW appearance. WNZ has some details about WWE’s reaction to his promo. Plus, the current plans for those Ring of Honor tag titles, in light of Jay Briscoe’s passing.
John Cena made a splashing WWE return this week. All in an effort to set up the WrestleMania 39 angle he has with United States Champion, Austin Theory.
As per a report from Fightful Select, most within the WWE were over the moon about Cena and his performance this past Monday. They believed John helped bring “familiar” faces back to RAW.
While an appearance from Cena generally guarantees a major rating boost, this was not the case for the Monday, March 6th edition. In fact, there was only a slight increase.
As per ShowBuzzDaily, the program brought in 1.83 million viewers on average. There was a 0.33 rating in the 18-34 demographic and a 0.52 for the 18-49.
While fans are looking forward to Cena versus Theory at ‘Mania for the U.S. title, it is unclear what John’s WWE plans are for after the flagship event. Only time will tell.
Over to some Ring of Honor (ROH) news, there seems to be a plan in place for the promotion’s tag team titles. More on this story, below.
Fans and those in the wrestling world continue to mourn the loss of Jay Briscoe. Sadly, he passed away in a car crash at the young age of 38.
Jay and his brother Mark were official ROH Tag Champions at the time of his passing. Since Jay’s untimely death, Mark has carried around the ROH tag titles during his appearances on both ROH and AEW television.
It seems that the promotion has a plan in place for the future of the ROH Tag Titles. As per SeScoops, Mark made an announcement in this regard during a recent AEW Rampage taping, set to air on Friday, March 10th.
Mark notes during the promo that a “Reach for the Sky” Ladder Match is set for ROH’s next pay-per-view (PPV), Supercard of Honor. This event will take place on Friday, March 31st.
Already confirmed for the big bout are the Lucha brothers. Should be an interesting, and perhaps emotional, match.
Whoever snags those tag titles next has mighty big shoes to fill. After all, the Briscoe Brothers are thought to be one of the best tag teams in ROH’s history.
Jay and Mark are 13-time World Tag Team titleholders in the promotion. Their last tag title run began in December 2022, just before Jay’s passing, where they snagged the championships at Final Battle.
In addition, the brothers (along with Bully Ray) held the ROH World 6-Man Tag Team titles. Jay also had two runs as ROH Champion, and both Briscoes were inducted into the ROH Hall of Fame last year.
