It’s only been a few weeks since Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of Elvis, died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 54, but things have already gone off the rails when it comes to her family and the will that she left behind.

Priscilla Contesting Will

Daily Mail reported that Priscilla Presley, 77, is challenging a 2016 revision to her only daughter’s will that removed both her and Barry Siegel, Lisa Marie’s former business manager, as managers of her trust. The revision replaced them with Riley Keough, Lisa Marie’s 33 year-old actress daughter.

Priscilla’s lawyers are claiming that the revised document misspelled her name and bears a signature that “appears inconsistent with (Lisa Marie’s) usual and customary signature,” according to Deadline.

They attorneys alleged that Priscilla only found out about the “purported 2016 amendment” after Lisa Marie’s death, making this claim in a filing to the Los Angeles Superior Court last Thursday. They also claim that the amendment was never sent to Priscilla when Lisa Marie was still alive, “as required by the express terms of the trust.”

Priscilla reportedly believes that Siegel “has already or will soon resign as co-trustee,” which would mean that Riley will be appointed co-trustee with her grandmother.

“The Purported 2016 Amendment should be deemed invalid and the Trust, as amended and completely restated in 2010 is the controlling and authoritative document and its terms administered,”  Priscilla’s petition reads.

Lisa Marie’s Friend Fires Back

A friend of Lisa Marie’s, however, has since spoken out to slam Priscilla for what she is doing.

“Lisa’s intent was very clear,” the friend told People Magazine. “Lisa really didn’t feel that Priscilla was doing anything in her best interest.”

The friend went on to say that Priscilla is directly contradicting her daughter’s wishes with what she is doing, and that Lisa Marie “did not have a relationship” with her mother. Lisa Marie also allegedly “had a major issue” with the way her trust was being run, according to this friend.

“There’s substantial documentation that basically Lisa was the only trustee,” the friend said. “Priscilla did not participate in anything, as [Siegel also] hadn’t for years before… At the end of the day, a trustee is supposed to have limited power — they’re supposed to not be able to do anything bad or stupid. No one can argue that Riley being the trustee is going to not be to the benefit of the twins.”

The friend was referring to Lisa Marie’s twin daughters Finley and Harper Lockwood, who are only 14 years-old.

‘These Are Her Wishes’

“Lisa lived her life authentically… She wouldn’t remain quiet when she was being taken advantage of,” the friend said. “At the end of the day, these are her wishes, and there’s no question as to what her wishes were. No one’s going to be able to reinvent the last seven or eight years and say no, no, no.”

Lisa Marie was the sole heir to Elvis’ estate and also inherited Graceland, which will now go to her three surviving children. She was sadly predeceased by her son Benjamin Keough, who committed suicide back in 2020 at the age of 27.

It was already tragic enough that Lisa Marie died suddenly at such a young age, but it’s nearly just as sad to see her family fall apart over money in just a few weeks after her passing. We can only hope that Lisa Marie’s surviving relatives are able to get this will figured out in a way that will allow them to remain close, because it’s not worth it to let money get in the way of family.
