There is just something special about the heavyweight division. And the upcoming PFL Challenger Series features an interesting array of fighters.

For years, the boxing heavyweight division was always in the spotlight. The likes of George Foreman, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis were in big-time bouts.

When mixed martial arts came on the scene, the heavyweights took centerstage once more. From Randy Couture to Fedor Emelianenko to Brock Lesnar, the division always shined bright.

Now, the PFL is looking for the next heavyweight superstar. The PFL Challenger Series begins later this month on Fubo Sports Network, and one episode will feature eight heavyweights in action.

Brazilians Giacomo Lemos and Danilo Marques are scheduled for the main event. Lemos has previous PFL Challenger Series experience, having earned a knockout in his debut.

Marques, meanwhile, owns eight first round finishes, with 10 of his career wins being by either knockout or submission.

Greg Velasco is a former NCAA Div. I wrestling standout much like Lesnar, as he puts his 5-1 record on the line vs. another Brazilian in Vitor Resende. Resende, who stands 6-foot-9, trains out of the famed American Top Team gym in Florida.

More international flavor will be in action with Manchester native Abraham Bably taking on Hassan Graham. Both own unbeaten records with eight amateur wins among them.

Louie Sutherland, from Scotland, takes on Alton Meeks, who played collegiate football for Iowa State and Northern Illinois. Sutherland has four first round knockouts on his resume, while Meeks is 4-1 with two KOs and two submissions.

“As the PFL looks ahead to the new year, we are thrilled to reveal our Heavyweight division for the 2023 PFL Challenger Series, which will be held for a second straight year at Universal Studios Florida,” said PFL President of Fighter Operations, Ray Sefo.
