Cher, 76, Admits Relationship With 36 Year-OId Boyfriend Is ‘Ridiculous’ – Claims ‘Older Men’ Don’t Like Her

We previously reported that the pop singer Cher, 76, is currently dating the 36 year-old music executive Alexander “AE” Edwards, who is 40 years her junior. In a new interview with the singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson, Cher has admitted that her new relationship is “ridiculous,” but she’s also standing by it, as she feels older men don’t like her. 

‘It’s Kind Of Ridiculous’

“Well, on paper it’s kind of ridiculous,” Cher confessed when asked about her new relationship. “But in real life we get along great. He’s fabulous and I don’t give men qualities that they don’t deserve.”

Daily Mail reported that Cher went on to praise Edwards by saying that he is “very kind.”

“He’s very smart, he’s very talented and he’s really funny so – and I think he’s quite handsome,” she continued. “If I hadn’t met younger men in my life, I would have never had a date, because older men just didn’t like me all that much, do you know what I mean?”

While Cher said that she has had “a couple boyfriends” who were “hovering around my age,” she got the feeling that “they just didn’t like me for some reason.”

“Younger men don’t care if you’re, you know, funny or outrageous and wanna do stupid things and, you know, and you have a strong personality, you know?” Cher explained. “I mean I’m not giving up my personality for anybody, okay?”

Cher confirmed that she is dating Edwards last month after rumors of their romance began to swirl. When one fan brought up their age gap on social media, she fired back by writing, “LOVE DOESNT KNOW MATH, IT SEES [hearts].”

Edwards is the vice president of artists and repertoire at Def Jam Recordings, which the likes of Justin Bieber and 2 Chainz call home. He shares a three year-old son with his ex Amber Rose, who is a 39 year-old model and television personality.

Cher’s Romantic History

Cher has long been known to date younger men. When she was 40 in the 1980s, she famously dated bagel shop worker Rob Camilletti, who was only 22 at the time.

Cher also dated Val Kilmer when she was 36 and he was just 21. Last year, Cher admitted in an essay for People Magazine that she “still loves” Kilmer all these years later. 

“He’s like nobody I’ve ever known,” she wrote. “He is exasperating and hysterical. Thrilling and funny, and doesn’t do what anyone else does. I don’t know how we stayed friends, we just did. We didn’t try. We just were.”

Cher has been married twice in her life. She was first married to the late Sonny Bono, with whom she formed the singing duo Sonny & Cher, from 1964 until they divorced in 1975. She then married Gregg Allman from the Allman Brothers Band, who she stayed with from 1975 until they divorced in 1979.

Cher Has No Regrets

In a 2010 interview, Cher said that she has no regrets about the many romances of her life.

“I enjoyed them all!” she said at the time, according to Fox News. “I never felt I chose badly, and I was always happy when the next man came along. I can usually last about two years with a man, and that’s it. The moment the relationship goes into the phase of more commitment, it changes.” 

While Cher can certainly date whomever she pleases, a forty year age difference does seem like it would be difficult to navigate in a relationship. Only time will tell whether her romance with Edwards will be a quick fling, or something more serious in the grand scheme of her life.
