The Hollywood star Tim Allen of “Home Improvement” fame is being hit with backlash after his character in his new Disney+ mini series “The Santa Clauses” joked that saying Merry Christmas “has suddenly become problematic.”

Controversial Line In ‘The Santa Clauses’

Daily Mail reported that in the new miniseries “The Santa Clauses,” Allen’s character of Scott Calvin is asked if something is bothering him. He responds to this question by saying that everything is fine, except that “saying ‘Merry Christmas to all’ has suddenly become problematic.”

Jack Burditt, the creator of both “The Santa Clauses” and “Last Man Standing,” was asked about this “lightning rod” line by Deadline, and he admitted that he went back and forth on including it in the miniseries.

“This is something that I just think is silly but then I’m like, I don’t know … I mean, look, we also had a joke at one point where Santa is on his rounds, they’re going in for a landing and somebody’s shooting something up at him,” he said.

“And Noel the elf [who rides with Santa], says something like, ‘war on Christmas!’ I’m like, yeah, I don’t wanna go that far,” he continued.

Social Media Users Sound Off

Even so, the line did not sit well with many social media users.

“‘Merry Christmas to all’ has suddenly become problematic!’ – character who literally killed Santa Claus and assumed the mantle of his power,” one Twitter user commented, referring to Allen’s character accidentally killing Santa Clause in the original Santa Clause movie, which came out in 1994.

“To be fair we say happy holidays because we don’t want to offend people who celebrate Kwanzaa and Hanukkah,” another user added. “I think that show just has muddled messaging and doesn’t really know what it wants.”

“Santa had the red hat all along and we just ignored it,” a third Twitter user commented, seemingly referring to Allen supporting the former President Donald Trump and his “Make America Great Again” hats.

Allen Supported Trump

Allen was previously hit with backlash for attending Trump’s inauguration back in 2017.

“You get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody believes,” he told Jimmy Kimmel afterwards. “This is like Thirties Germany. I don’t know what happened. If you’re not part of the group, ‘You know what we believe is right,’ I go, ‘Well, I might have a problem with that.’ I’m a comedian, I like going on both sides.”

“I literally don’t preach anything,” he added. “What I’ve done is I’ve just not joined into, as I call it, the ‘we culture.’ I’m not telling anybody else how to live. I don’t like that.”

In another interview, Allen called out the Hollywood stars who regularly bash Trump, saying that they are hypocrites.

“What I find odd in Hollywood is that they didn’t like Trump because he was a bully,” he said. “But if you had any kind of inkling that you were for Trump, you got bullied for doing that. And that’s where this gets a little hypocritical to me.”

Allen is one of the few openly conservative stars in Hollywood, so it’s not surprising that liberals are already trying to attack his new miniseries.

Unfortunately, it’s true that saying “Merry Christmas” has become “problematic” in today’s culture thanks to leftists who are out to “cancel” Christianity. We applaud Allen for having the guts to call them out with his new show!
