Former President Donald Trump’s attacks on the PGA Tour don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. On Thursday, while playing in a pro-am with golfers Brooks Kopek and Sergio Garcia ahead of the final LIV Golf event of the season, Trump took another opportunity to call out the PGA Tour, claiming the organization will be the cause of it’s own potential demise.
Trump asserted to members of the press that the PGA is hurting itself by “breaking into their own pension fund” in order to payout prize money at their own events.
Trump’s attacks on the PGA shouldn’t be surprising to anyone who has paid attention, since the former president has backed the Saudi Arabian owned LIV Golf since the very beginning. His own relationship with the PGA soured long before the two warring golf organizations began their epic feud, especially after the PGA of America exited the 2022 PGA Championship from Trump’s Bedminster course after the January 6th Capitol riot.
PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan responded to Trump’s claim, claiming that it wasn’t true. However, the PGA is in fact using reserve funds to pay winners as a way of staying on par with the payouts offered by LIV Golf.
Trump continued to state that “The PGA is being destroyed by the PGA. They were so stupid and they shouldn’t be stupid. This was a great opportunity for them.

“The Tour mishandled it so badly and the people at the top, something should happen with them,” said Trump. “They mishandled it so badly.”
Speaking with reporters from Golfweek, Trump as expected praised LIV Golf for doing a “fantastic job” and called the league “big time” and with “unlimited money.”
