Pat Sajak has been an essential pillar of “Wheel Of Fortune” since 1981 and, after over 40 years hosting the iconic game show, he’s admitting that the “end is near” for him.

‘The End Is Near’

“In most television shows by this time, you would have said, ‘That’s probably enough,’ but this show will not die,” Sajak, 75, told Entertainment Tonight of the game show, which premiered back in 1975.

“It appears I may go before the show,” he continued. “Years go by fast. We’re getting near the end. It’s been a long [time]. We’re not gonna do this for another 40 years. The end is near. It’s an honor to have been in people’s living rooms for that long. People were out there welcoming us. We’re happy and proud.”

The upcoming third season of “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” has kept the Sajak busy alongside co-host Vanna White, so the TV host isn’t going anywhere just quite yet.

“I think people love seeing celebrities and watching them be themselves and not play a character,” said White, 65. “When they come on here, they are themselves, they have a good time, they’re playing for a great cause, so it’s good for everybody.”

‘I’m Still Pulling For…’

Snoop Dogg —  who is confirmed to appear on September 25th for the season premiere of “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” — is one of the celebrities that White is most excited to see competing on the show. Sajak, however, has his hopes set on another celebrity someday competing on the show.

“I’m still pulling for Meryl Streep ’cause I wanna see her say, ‘Come on, big money!'” he said. “That’s all I want, but she won’t come on because she found out you can’t win an Oscar for this.”

While Streep isn’t set to compete on “Celebrity Wheel Of Fortune,” plenty of other A-list stars are, and they’re doing so in the hopes of winning up to $1 million for charity.

“We wouldn’t do this for charity unless we wanted the charities to do well,” Sajak explained, “so we try to stack as much as we can in that regard.”

Sajak And White Sign Deals

In September of last year, Sajak and White signed lucrative deals to stay on “Wheel Of Fortune” through at least 2024. However, his latest comments indicate that they may be considering leaving earlier than that. In September of last year, Sajak revealed that he couldn’t see himself hosting “Wheel Of Fortune” for another decade.

“We’re certainly closer to the end than the beginning,” Sajak told Entertainment Tonight at the time. “I’d like to leave before people tune in and look at me and say, ‘Ooh, what happened to him? I wouldn’t bet on seeing us in, like, 10 years, I would say.”

White agreed that she would “probably” leave the game show before the end of the decade, but she had nothing but kind words for Sajak.

“We’ve been together for like 38 years and he’s like my brother,” she said of Sajak. “He’s funny. I mean, we could finish each other’s sentences if we wanted to. We know each other that well.”

Sajak and White are true icons in the world of television, and “Wheel Of Fortune” would never be the same without them. Here’s hoping that they stay with the show for many years to come!
