The world is still reeling from the death of the legendary Grease star Olivia Newton-John, who died on Monday at the age of 73 following a thirty year battle with cancer. Now, one of her final interviews has surfaced, and she makes some comments about death in it that are nothing short of powerful.
While appearing on the A Life of Greatness podcast in February of 2021, Newton-John was asked if she had ever contemplated her own death.
“I have quite a few times,” she replied, adding that she had to do so “sooner than [she] would have wanted.”
The Xanadu star was referring to the fact that she was first diagnosed with breast cancer back in 1992 when she was only 44 years old. She managed to beat the disease twice before revealing publicly in 2018 that she had been diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer that had spread to her back, according to Yahoo News.
“I mean — we all know we are going to die,” Newton-John said in last year’s interview. “I think we spend our lives probably much in denial of it.”

Newton-John went on to offer some truly powerful words of wisdom about death.
“What I feel about it is extremely personal, so I find it hard to put into words,” she said. “I believe that we are all part of one thing. I’ve had experiences with — how can I put it? — spirits or spirit life or felt the spirit world or have heard things that I believe there is something that happens.”
“It’s almost like we are parts of a big computer and we go back to the main battery,” Newton-John continued. “I don’t have a definite definition of what it is. Some people call it ‘heaven.’ Some call it ‘the universe.’ I just think there is a great knowingness out there that we become part of.”
Newton-John then expressed her hope that “the energies of the people you love are there,” but added that she believes “all the love will be there.” She explained that she’s known people who have had near-death experiences, including her husband John Easterling, and they “say it’s the most unbelievable feeling of love that you’ve ever experienced and you don’t want to come back.”
“So I’m kind of looking forward to that,” she said with a laugh. “Not now but when it happens.”

Newton-John concluded by addressing all the different beliefs there are about the afterlife, saying that “they all seem to have the same ending. Either we come back as something else or we go to heaven or we join others in the spirit world.”
“But most humans want to believe that we go on. I don’t know if that is so,” she stated. “I hope that I can let people know when it happens if it is.”
Newton-John’s husband announced on Monday that she had died peacefully on her ranch in California, surrounded by her family and friends. While we will miss Newton-John dearly, we’re glad that she is at peace now, and that she has finally learned the secret of what comes next.
