Tim Allen Reveals Why He Hasn’t Been Talking About ‘Lightyear,’ Disney’s Latest Flop

The Hollywood star Tim Allen is slamming the new movie Lightyear, which flopped in its opening weekend after Disney replaced him with Chris Evans in playing the character of Buzz Lightyear.

‘It Has No Relationship To Buzz’

“It’s a wonderful story, it just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy,” Allen said of the new movie, according to Daily Mail. “It has no relationship to Buzz.”

“We talked about this many years ago…but the brass that did the first four movies is not this,” he continued. “It’s a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies. I’ve stayed out of this.”

Allen is referring to the fact that he originated the character of Buzz Lightyear in the first Toy Story movie back in 1995, and continued to play him in the subsequent three sequels. He went on to say that he had thought this new movie would be live-action, and not animated like the other films were. 

“There’s really no Toy Story Buzz without Woody,” he explained. “I’m not sure what the idea—I’m a plot guy. It would seem to be a big adventure story, and as I see, it’s not a big adventure story.”

Allen’s Past Comments On Trump

Evans, who plays Buzz Lightyear in the new movie, is known to be a “woke” Hollywood star who frequently preaches liberal values in interviews. In contrast, Allen has expressed conservative views in the past, once saying that he “liked that Donald Trump pissed people off” and that he sees himself as “politically, kind of an anarchist.”

When asked by Jimmy Kimmel back in 2017 about attending Trump’s inauguration, Allen said, “You get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody believes.”

“This is like Thirties Germany. I don’t know what happened. If you’re not part of the group, ”You know what we believe is right,’ I go, ”Well, I might have a problem with that.’ I’m a comedian, I like going on both sides,” he continued. “I literally don’t preach anything. What I’ve done is I’ve just not joined into, as I call it, the ‘we culture.’ I’m not telling anybody else how to live. I don’t like that.”

Allen Calls Out Hollywood Hypocrites

Allen has also said that people in Hollywood who criticize Trump are hypocrites. 

“What I find odd in Hollywood is that they didn’t like Trump because he was a bully,” he said. “But if you had any kind of inkling that you were for Trump, you got bullied for doing that. And that’s where this gets a little hypocritical to me.”

Lightyear flopped in its opening weekend, earning a measly $51.7 million in North America and failing to top Jurassic World: Dominion, which earned $58.7 million in its second weekend. Perhaps more people would have gone to see it if Allen had been playing the role that so many people grew up with him playing. 

In the end, this is yet another example of “going woke” and “going broke.”
