Miranda Lambert Discusses Divorcing Blake Shelton

Miranda Lambert opened up in a recent interview about what it was like to find love and happiness again after her 2015 divorce from her fellow country music star Blake Shelton. 

Lambert Has Been On ‘A Long Journey’

Lambert, 38, told People Magazine that after years of highs and lows, she finally feels like she is in a good place in life.

“Finding happiness and being at peace with yourself, it’s a long journey, but I’ve really gotten to a great place,” Lambert explained. “My manager’s been good about asking me to ‘sit in my life.’ Country music is a huge part of my life, but it’s not fully who I am.”

Lambert was 27 years old when she married Shelton back in May of 2011, and she was 31 when they divorced just over four years later. In her latest interview, Lambert indicated that it was turning 30 that made her rethink both her marriage and what she wanted in life. 

“When I turned 30, I started to take life in a new direction and really start to understand myself a little better,” she said. “And going through hard things obviously makes you get to know yourself better.”

“When you get broken down pretty good, you look at the mirror and you go, ‘I have to spend some time with me, learn who I am and what I want,'” Lambert added. “I got to a really good place with myself. Then I met my husband.”

Lambert Finds Love Again

Lambert was referring to her husband Brendan McLoughlin, to whom she has been married since 2019. She met McLoughlin, a police officer for the NYPD, when she was doing an appearance on “Good Morning America,” and he was doing security there.

One person who knows more than anyone just how happy Lambert is these days is her mother, Beverly June Lambert. 

“One look at her tells that story,” Beverly said. “She is comfortable and confident, and it shows. Brendan is a good example of a partner. He walks beside her, not beneath or above her. Navigating a new marriage, a pandemic, touring, career changes, family health crises, etc. isn’t easy. But there they are just killin’ it.”

Lambert Doesn’t Care What Anyone Else Thinks 

Lambert also said that as she nears 40, she doesn’t care what anyone else thinks about her marriage and her lifestyle.

“I want to be open about how happy we are,” Lambert stated. “I just don’t give two s—s about people’s opinion of me, my marriage, my music or anything else. I just care that I’m being me.”

“He jumped right into this lifestyle — there’s a learning curve taking a New Yorker straight to the woods — but it was a big laugh,” she continued. “It’s nice to have a partner in that, someone by your side that supports you, loves you and believes in you. He loves me for me. It’s a really cool thing to have in my life, at this point in my life.”

‘Without The Hard Stuff…I Wouldn’t Be Who I Am’

Shelton has also found love again, tying the knot with Gwen Stefani last year. In the end, hopefully he has walked away from his divorce from Lambert with the same perspective that she has on it now.

“Without the hard stuff — the chaos, the crazy schedule, the heartbreak, the falling in love, the falling out of love — I wouldn’t be who I am,” Lambert said. “I’m thankful for the lessons, even though they hurt at the time.”

We could all learn a lot from Lambert’s perspective on life. Just because one relationship or marriage doesn’t work out, it does not mean you can’t find happiness and love down the road!
