Live Album From Charlie Daniels’ First Volunteer Jam Dropping Next Month

It’s been two years since the legendary country music star Charlie Daniels passed away at the age of 83, but he is still missed by millions of fans to this day.

These fans will be overjoyed to learn that his very first Volunteer Jam at the War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville from back in 1974 is being released for the first time on “Charlie Daniels & Friends: Volunteer Jam 1 – 1974 – The Legend Begins!”

Daniels’ New Live Album

This album will have 12 tracks, and will include performances from The Charlie Daniels Band along with special guests Toy Caldwell and Paul Riddle of The Marshall Tucker Band,The Allman Brothers’ Dickey Betts, and Jamie Nichol. Songs included on the album are “Tennessee Waltz,” “Whiskey,” “Long Haired Country Boy,” “Caballo Diablo,” “Jambalaya,” “The South’s Gonna Do It (Again),” and more!

“The Volunteer Jam was a magical evening,” Daniels’ longtime manager and Blue Hat Records President David Corlew told Music Crow. “There was no other event like it. There has never been and will never be.”

“This is the first one. The beginning, where it all started,” he continued. “So let this first Jam be your melodic introduction to a musical legend like no other.”

Daniels Duet Album Also Coming Up

On top of that, Blue Hat and BFD/Audium Nashville will release a special vinyl edition of “Charlie Daniels & Friends — Duets,” which will be sold exclusively at Walmart starting on August 26.

This album will have nineteen tracks and will include Daniels performing duets with Dolly Parton, Brooks & Dunn, Darius Rucker, Travis Tritt, Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Brenda Lee, Gretchen Wilson, and more.

In the final interview before his death, Daniels told Fox News that the first two songs he ever learned were “You Are My Sunshine,” and the old hymn, “Kneel at the Cross.”

‘I Had Music In My Life’

“I had music in my life,” he said one month before he passed. “My dad didn’t play an instrument, but he dearly loved music, and we were constantly listening to the radio. And I used to sing with my dad. He taught me how to sing harmony. We’d ride along in his car; he’d sing old songs.”

“I actually was about 15 years old before I actually played an instrument,” he continued. “I’d always wanted to. And I was living in a little town in North Carolina, and this friend of mine I had known for several years, I went up to his house one day, and he had this old Stella guitar out. I mean one of these old beat up — I bet the strings had never been changed on it. I don’t know if he even knew where he got it at. It was just at his house. The strings were rusty and all.”

Daniels tragically passed away just a few weeks after this interview after suffering a stroke, but he will always live on through the music he left behind. We can’t wait to listen to his live album when it drops next month!
