Meghan Markle’s Sister Wanted Judge Removed Because She Was An Obama Appointee

Meghan Markle’s estranged half-sister Samantha has unsuccessfully tried to get a judge removed from her defamation lawsuit against the royal because she was appointed by Barack Obama.

Samantha Tries To Have Judge Removed

Court documents obtained by Insider show that Samantha alleged that Judge Charlene Honeywell’s “impartiality will be questioned,” since she was appointed by Obama. 

“The Obama family, Prince Harry, and Meghan are ‘allies’ and strong supporters of one another,” she continued in the documents. 

Judge Honeywell, however, was not having any of it. She fired back by claiming that though she was appointed by Obama, she has no relationship with him and his family. 

“President Obama appointed the undersigned nearly 13 years ago,” the judge said in her decision, referring to herself. “But the undersigned has never had any relationship, social or professional, with the Obamas. The undersigned has never spoken with the former president or the former first lady.”

Jamie Alan Sasson, the attorney representing Samantha, responded by saying that he believes the judge will be impartial in the case.

“We trust the judge will be fair and impartial to our client, however we did feel it was necessary, being an Obama appointee and how close Meghan and Harry are to the Obama family,” he said.

Samantha’s Lawsuit Against Meghan

US Magazine reported that Samantha is suing Meghan for defamation over comments she made in her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey last year. She specifically took issue with Meghan telling Oprah that Samantha only changed her last name back to Markle after she began dating Prince Harry.

“She changed her last name back to Markle in — I think she was in her early 50s at that time — only when I started dating Harry,” Meghan said in the March of 2021 interview. “So I think that says enough.”

“When you talk about betrayal, betrayal comes from someone that you have a relationship with,” she added. “I don’t feel comfortable talking about people that I really don’t know.”

Samantha has accused Meghan of lying about both her and their father so that they “could not interfere with or contradict the false narrative and fairytale life story [she] concocted.” She alleges that these lies hurt sales of her autobiography, stopped her from getting jobs, and gave her emotional distress.

Samantha Accuses Meghan Of ‘Negligence’

This comes one month after Samantha accused Meghan of “negligence” for not contacting their father Thomas after he suffered a stroke.

“None of us have heard from Meghan — that’s negligence,” Samantha said. “He’s been through so much. Two heart attacks, a pandemic and now a stroke.”

Samantha then demanded that Meghan stop “watching and doing nothing” as their father’s health suffers.

“If she can’t find it in her heart, or have the moral conscience to step forward, then shame on her,” she added, alleging that Thomas “doesn’t have a lot of time” left.

“She sees all of this,” Samantha continued. “I’m getting the feeling that I would be spinning my wheels to try and appeal to her heart now.”

Meghan has been estranged from the entire Markle side of her family since before her marriage to Harry. Given this defamation lawsuit, it does not seem like this rift will be mended anytime soon.
