Two sheriff’s deputies from Orange County, Florida have been disciplined after they were found to have leaked information about the death of the comedian Bob Saget before the former “Full House” star’s widow Kelly Rizzo had been told of his passing.

Sheriff’s Deputies Punished

An internal investigation report from the Orange County Sheriff’s office that was obtained by Entertainment Tonight shows that details about Saget’s death spread on social media before Rizzo had been notified.

Deputies Emiliano Silva and Steven Reed allegedly spoke about Saget’s death to friends and family members, who then took to social media to post about it. Silva reportedly texted his brother about Saget’s passing, with his brother then taking to Twitter to write, “RIP Bob Saget.” The investigation found that this tweet went up before Saget’s family had been contacted, and before the homicide unit or medical examiner had even arrived on the scene.

During this time, Rizzo could not get any information about Saget’s condition from the hotel or from police. She was also being contacted by the media for confirmation that Saget had died. Silva claimed that he did not know that his brother would post about Saget’s death on Twitter, and that he “had no ill intent, but should not have said anything.”

Other Deputy Leaked Information As Well

Meanwhile, Reed admitted to speaking of Saget’s death to a friend who had attended the star’s comedy set the night of his passing. Reed was reportedly not involved in the investigation into Saget’s death, and he did not know that Saget’s family had not been notified yet. However, he’s admitted that he did not get authorization to release confidential information about the investigation to anyone.

Silva and Reed will be suspended for 81 hours for leaking this information. Find out more about this in the video below.

“This case highlights how important it is to allow detectives in death investigations the time to ensure next of kin notifications are made before that information is disseminated to the public,” Orange County Sheriff John Mina told WGNTV. “The deputies acknowledged their wrongdoing and were disciplined for their actions.”

Back in January, Saget was found dead in a hotel room in Florida at the age of 65, seemingly from injuries that he sustained in a fall of some kind. He was recently honored with the Impact Award during the Fourth Annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards, and Rizzo accepted it on his behalf with an emotional speech.

‘It’s So Surreal’

“Bob’s incredible daughters and I are so honored to be able to accept this on Bob’s behalf,” she said. “And this is very bittersweet, because this is just still… It’s so surreal.”

“You watch that, and you look at him, and you’re like, ‘Bob was larger than life.’ He was so full of life,” Rizzo added. “He was a force of nature. And you watch that, and you’re like, ‘How is he not the one that’s on the stage right now?’ It still doesn’t make sense. It still doesn’t really compute.”

Saget was truly a one-of-a-kind performer, and he will be dearly missed for many years to come. We’re glad that the deputies who carelessly leaked details about his passing are being held accountable for what they did.
