Charles Oliveira

Charles Oliveira has quickly climbed the rankings as UFC lightweight champion.

Oliveira defends his belt this Saturday night against Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC 274.

The 32-year-old Oliveira has reeled off 10 consecutive wins, including a submission of Dustin Poirier last December. That win was his first title defense.

Oliveira shocked many when he dominated Tony Ferguson in 2020. Shortly after, he claimed the vacant belt with a finish of Michael Chandler.

In the win over Chandler, Oliveira broke the UFC record for finishes with his 17th. The win vs. Poirier became his 18th finish and second consecutive “Performance of the Night” bonus.

Over the course of his 41-fight career, Oliveira has earned 29 finishes, including 20 by submission.

This will be the ultimate test for Oliveira in Gaethje.

Gaethje has secured 10 fight-night bonuses in his short time with the UFC. He is a former interim champion and also held the World Series of Fighting title.

Since 2018, Gaethje has picked up wins over James Vick, Edson Barboza, Donald Cerrone, Ferguson and Chandler. His lone loss came to Khabib Nurmagomedov when he was submitted.

This could be the ultimate fight and the ultimate test for Oliveira and his reign atop the 155-pound division.
