Ric Flair Is Wrestling A “Final Match” – Here’s Why That’s An Awful Idea

Ric Flair is entering the ring once “last” time. The 73-year-old Nature Boy is returning for a match on July 31st. This match is a terrible idea.

The opponent hasn’t been revealed, but the rumor is that Flair will be involved in a multi-man tag match, possibly with the Rock N Roll Express, who are also on a retirement tour.

Flair has hinted at a return for a few months. The Nature Boy has released several videos of him training with Jay Lethal, his former partner in TNA.

While this is billed as a retirement match, Flair has not wrestled since 2011, and retired from in-ring competition in 2012, citing Jerry Lawler’s health care as a reason. But with Lawler out wrestling on occasion, perhaps Flair felt he could get back to it too.

I hope this is only a gimmick, and Flair does not intend to wrestle a full-on match. Otherwise, we could have a disaster on our hands.

Ric Flair Has Nothing To Prove

Ric Flair is already the best of all time. He is a legend, and his legacy in wrestling is secure. Wrestling at this age can only harm his legacy. He can’t wrestle 60-minute main events. Flair is only a few years removed from being in a coma with multiple organ failures.

Why is Flair wrestling a “final” match? Could he need the cash?

Naitch is notoriously bad with money, so maybe he needs a payday. But why couldn’t he do a signing or a commercial for car insurance?

I ache at the thought of Naitch putting himself at risk for this.

Now, will I pay to watch this? Probably. Does that make me a massive hypocrite? Yes.

How This Could Work

This is an awful idea, and everyone involved needs to be shamed. They are putting a man’s life at risk for profit. But at the end of the day, this is Ric’s decision and his responsibility. Maybe he has returned to decent enough shape to be able to wrestle again. The good news, if any, is that if it is a multi-man match, they can design it so that Ric doesn’t take any bumps or does anything more than a few chops, a strut, and maybe put someone in the Figure Four.

But judging by Ric’s attitude and desire to be The Man, there could be more to it than that. Expect some blood, some bump over the top rope, and a lot of cringing.
