Johnny Elite, also known as John Morrison in the WWE, made his AEW debut on Dynamite, last night. He took on Samoa Joe during the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. With that said, many fans are wondering what his status with All Elite is.
PW Insider’s Mike Johnson is reporting that as of this writing, Johnny is not signed with AEW. Also, there is no intention of him working full-time for the company, currently.
However, the report states the door is open for added spots down the road should the opportunity arise. This is certainly good news for John and his fans.
It’s important to note that while he’s not officially “part” of AEW, fans could see him competing within the company again. That depends on whether AEW has something for him and his availability.
John has a signature move within each promotion he’s worked at by changing his character’s last name to reflect the company he is in. From Johnny Impact to Johnny Nitro, Johnny Mundo, and others, fans have come to appreciate his efforts around this fun concept.
John Morrison was released from his WWE contract due to budget cuts thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. With what Sasha Banks and Naomi pulled this week during Monday Night RAW, could they suffer the same fate?
By now, fans have all heard about Naomi and Sasha Banks walking out of RAW this week right when the show hit the airwaves. They were supposed to be a part of the main event that night, which left Vince McMahon, the creative team, and other talents, scrambling.
In doing so, they essentially not only changed storylines for RAW but women’s matches for Hell in A Cell (HIAC). The walkout also likely caused a SmackDown segment for this week (and program) between Sasha Banks and Ronda Rousey to be scrapped.
The company wasn’t overly pleased with what they did. In fact, they issued a statement that threw some shade on the ladies, plus, Corey Graves stated the two were “unprofessional” while on commentary.
With that said, could the WWE fire Naomi and Banks? The two are fan favorites and top stars within the company.
According to Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Radio, the WWE likely won’t fire the ladies. This is due to concern that they would head straight to AEW.
As Meltzer notes, if it was “another time and place” it would have been possible that both talents would be released from their contracts. He compared it to the recent Becky Lynch/Charlotte Flair segment when Flair screwed up the promo on purpose.
He notes that in “another place and time” Charlotte too may have been fired for purposely botching a live segment, but the worry is she would head to AEW. In addition, things are sticky with Naomi being married to another top WWE star, Jimmy Uso.
In terms of any repercussions for Naomi or Sasha, Meltzer states fans will have to wait and see. It’ll be interesting to see how the WWE handles this.
