Gervonta Davis steps back inside the boxing ring this weekend.
Davis will defend his WBA lightweight title against Rolando Romero in the main event live on Showtime pay-per-view. The card takes place from the Barclays Center in New York City.
Unbeaten at 26-0, Davis has successfully scored 24 knockout wins. In December, he was pushed to the distance for just the second time in his career against Isaac Cruz.
Davis won the title he currently holds when he bested Yuriorkis Gamboa back in 2019. Since that time, he also won the WBA super lightweight belt with a victory over Mario Barrios and the WBA super featherweight title when he stopped Leo Santa Cruz.
Getting Davis and Romero together has been a struggle. They were originally booked for December from the Staples Center in Los Angles, but legal charges forced Romero off the card.
In January, his was cleared and the WBA ordered the fight be made.
Romero is a former WBA interim lightweight champion with 14 wins to his credit in 14 fights. Of those, a dozen have come by way of knockout.
In July, he stopped Anthony Yigit in the seventh round.
Along with Davis and Romero for the WBA lightweight title, Erislandy Lara defends his WBA middleweight crown against Gary O’Sullivan. Completing the main card will be 10-round features with Jesus Alejandro Ramos battling Lucas Santamaria and Eduardo Ramirez meeting Luis Melendez.
