Gervonta Davis

Gervonta Davis wants to make a statement this weekend.

Davis meets Rolando Romero in the main event live on Showtime pay-per-view. The five-time world champion and No. 1 contender will meet from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Along with announcing that this fight is the last on his current deal with Floyd Mayweather’s promotional team, “Tank” says he wants to have a highlight-reel night.

“It’s going to be a hell of a fight. I know that it’s going to be fireworks for sure,” Davis said. “He’s coming with a lot of power and emotion and I’m coming with my power for sure. I just can’t wait. It’s a big night for boxing.”

The 27-year-old will be competing in Brooklyn for the first time since winning the WBA super featherweight belt vs. Jesus Cuellar in 2018.

“It means a lot to be back at Barclays Center. The atmosphere here is incredible. This is a great city,” he said. “I wouldn’t want to fight anywhere else. I’m grateful to have a great fanbase here and we’re excited.”

Last December, Davis bested Isaac Cruz to defend his WBA lightweight title, which will once again be on the line.

“A lot of fighters are calling each other out but aren’t fighting,” Davis said. “He worked his way up to this point and called me out. Now the fight is happening, so it’ll be great to have him on my resume after he talked all that trash.

“The fight is here. I’m sure it’ll be a little tense at the press conference, but not for me. I’m only worrying about getting in there Saturday and handling business.”
