Chris Rock Will Smith Hearing

Weeks after Chris Rock was slapped by Will Smith at the Oscars, the comedian joked that he is still recovering from what happened.

‘I Got Most Of My Hearing Back’

While performing at the Royal Albert Hall in the United Kingdom on Thursday night, Rock opened up about his recovery.

“I’m OK if anybody was wondering,” Rock quipped during the show, according to Fox News. “I got most of my hearing back.”

Rock has been reluctant to talk about the slap publicly since it happened, and he referenced this in his performance last night.

“People expect me to talk about the bulls—, I’m not going to talk about it right now, I’ll get to it eventually – on Netflix,” Rock joked. “Anyone who says ‘words hurt’ – has never been punched in the face.”

Rock previously said he would not be talking about the Oscars slap until he gets paid to do so.

“I’m OK. I have a whole show, and I’m not talking about that until I get paid,” he said a few weeks ago.

Smith Slaps Rock

Smith stormed the stage at the Oscars and slapped Rock after the comedian made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, being bald.

The joke appears to have hit a nerve because she suffers from alopecia, a condition that makes her lose her hair. People Magazine reported that Smith said afterward that he “reacted emotionally” because the “joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear.”

Smith has since resigned from the Academy and been banned from all Academy events, including the Oscars, for the next decade.

Wanda Sykes Speaks Out

Wanda Sykes, who was one of the hosts of the Oscars, said that she “felt so awful for my friend Chris” when she found out what went down backstage.

“I saw Chris at [Guy Oseary’s afterparty] and as soon as I walked up to him, the first thing he said is, ‘I’m so sorry.’ I was like, ‘Why are you apologizing?'” she recalled. “He was like, ‘It was supposed to be your night. You and Amy and Regina were doing such a great job. I’m so sorry this is now gonna be about this.’ ”

“Because that’s who Chris is,” Sykes added.

Most of Smith’s Hollywood projects have been put on hold in the wake of this slap, and he is said to be in therapy. Smith also resurfaced for the first time since slapping Rock in India. It remains to be seen whether his career in Hollywood will ever recover from this.
