Mark Wahlberg Christian faith

Mark Wahlberg is known for being one of the most devoutly Christian stars in Hollywood, which is why it came as somewhat of a surprise this week when he revealed why he does not want to “force” his Catholic faith on his four young children.

Wahlberg Won’t Be ‘Forcing’ His Religion On His Kids

Wahlberg, 50, and his wife Rhea Durham share four children: daughters Ella, 18, and Grace Margaret, 12, and sons Michael, 16, and Brendan, 13.

While promoting his new faith-based movie Father Stu on the “Today” show, Wahlberg opened up about his children and his religion.

“They think Dad’s crazy, and he’s boring,” he joked, according to People Magazine. “But even with my faith, I don’t force it on them. But they know that Dad can’t start the day without being in prayer, can’t start the day without reading my Scripture or going to Mass.”

“And hopefully, instead of forcing that on them, they’ll say, ‘Well, if it works for Dad, maybe it’ll work for us,’ and they’ll kind of gravitate towards it on their own,” Wahlberg added.

He recently posted a throwback family snapshot to Instagram that featured his family.

Wahlberg’s Strong Christian Faith

Wahlberg has long been open about the important role that his Christian faith plays in his life.

“God has continued to bless me and put me in this situation,” Wahlberg told Fox News earlier this year, referring to his work in Father Stu. “Not to continue to grow and work on Mark Wahlberg the person, but to do His work and finally giving me the skills and tools to go out there and articulate the message that He wants me to articulate.”

Wahlberg went on to say that the world needs more movies about faith right now.

“People need to have faith and hope,” he stated. “Young men need to know what it’s like to be a real man. You could literally list a million reasons… just turn on the news, anywhere you look there’s reasons for encouraging people to have faith and to have hope.”

‘This Was My Calling’

“I didn’t know we would be releasing this movie in a pandemic,” Wahlberg continued. “I just knew that I needed to make this movie and this was my calling – this was my mission. And now, it’s needed more than ever, and hopefully, it will help a lot of people.”

When asked if Father Stu marks a pivotal moment in his career, Wahlberg replied, “It’s certainly a turning point for me in my life.”

Father Stu is set to be released next Wednesday. God bless Wahlberg for continuing to show the world that a good Christian father can find success in the crazy world of Hollywood!
