John Travolta son Jett

Hollywood star John Travolta of Grease and Saturday Night Fever fame took to social media on Wednesday to honor his late son Jett on what would have been his 30th birthday.

‘I Miss You More Than Words Can Say’

“My dearest Jetty, I miss you more than words can say. I think about you everyday. Happy Birthday. Love, your Dad,” Travolta, 68, wrote alongside a throwback photo of himself and Jett.

People Magazine reported that Jett passed away back in 2009 at the age of 16 after he hit his head on a bathtub while vacationing with his family in the Bahamas.

Travolta shared Jett with his late wife Kelly Preston, who died in 2020 at the age of 57 following a battle with breast cancer.

Preston Discusses Jett’s Autism

Daily Mail reported that in a 2012 interview, Preston opened up about Jett having autism.

“[Jett] was autistic. He had seizures and when he was very young, he had Kawasaki Syndrome,” she said, referring to a rare condition that is often seen in children in which the walls of arteries throughout the body become inflamed.

“I strongly believe as a mother, as does my husband, that there are certain contributing factors that lead to autism and some of it is very much the chemicals in our environment and in our food,” Preston continued.

Travolta is also the father of two more children with Preston, a 22-year-old daughter Ella and an 11-year-old son Benjamin. Travolta announced Preston’s death in July of 2020, saying that she “fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.”

“My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side. Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered,” he added.

Travolta Discusses Death With His Son

ABC News reported that last year, Travolta discussed how he has talked about death with his youngest son Benjamin.

“He said to me once, ‘Because mom passed away, I’m afraid you’re going to,'” Travolta recalled. “I said, ‘Well, it’s a very different thing.’ And I went through the differences about my longevity and her limited life.”

“You know, Ben, you always love the truth, and I’m gonna tell you the truth about life. Nobody knows when they’re gonna go or when they’re gonna stay … your brother left at 16 — too young — your mother left at 57 — that was too young. But who’s to say?” Travolta told his son. “I could die tomorrow. You could. I mean, anybody can,” he continued. “So let’s look at life … it’s part of life, you see? You don’t know exactly. You just do your best at trying to live the longest you can.”

Travolta and his family have certainly dealt with more than their fair share of tragedy. Please join us in saying a prayer for Travolta as he continues to grieve his wife and son.
