Some have questioned the decisions of the PFL.
However, by bringing superstar Kayla Harrison back on a multi-fight deal, they have shown staying power.
Harrison is one of the top names not only in the promotion, but of female fighting overall. She is a former Olympic champion and has a strong reputation about her outside of fighting.
All in all, Harrison is the real deal and the kind of fighter you can build not only a weight class around, but a promotion as well.
Harrison has twice won the PFL women’s lightweight championships. She is a perfect 12-0 with five knockout and five submission wins to her credit.
In 2020, she moved to the featherweight division with Invicta FC and dominated Courtney King. Harrison quickly jumped back to lightweight and reeled off four consecutive finishes – three in the first round – to claim the 2021 season title.
With a new deal on ESPN to broadcast events, and announced plans for a super-fight league that will be broadcast on pay-per-view, the PFL is ready to cement itself in the mixed martial arts world.
Along with Harrison, Bruno Cappelozza, Antonio Carlos Junior, Ray Cooper III, Raush Manfio and Movlid Khaybulaev all earned 2021 titles.
PFL officials have also brought in the likes of Anthony Pettis, Fabricio Werdum, Jeremy Stephens and boxing world champion Claressa Shields to the fold.
Shields is transitioning to mixed martial arts and fought twice in 2021. She remains a key.
The PFL Challenger Series debuted earlier this year. It serves as a breeding ground for future fighters. And also gives them a perfect chance to excel and earn a spot in the tournaments.
