Spider-Man Star To Play Fred Astaire In Upcoming Biopic

Tom Holland isn’t just Spider-Man, he can dance, too. The British actor is getting a chance to put his hoofin’ skills to the test since he is set to play dance and screen legend Fred Astaire in an upcoming biopic.

At this time, not much is known about the project. So far, there seems to be only a script with no director or other stars attached.

Here’s what Holland had to say.

The script came in a week ago; I haven’t read it yet. They haven’t given it to me. I know Amy Pascal has the script. She Facetimed me earlier when I was in the bath and we had a lovely Facetime. But I will be playing Fred Astaire.”

In the case of “there’s always two of the same movies being made,” there is another Fred Astaire biopic coming out soon from Amazon starring Jamie Bell who will star opposite Margaret Qually as Ginger Rogers.

Tom Holland Can Dance!

Holland is a trained dancer who played the lead in the Billy Elliott musical in London’s West End.

Here is he actually channeling Astaire in “Singing in the Rain”:

Other Dancing Celebrities

It used to be that to become a leading man in Hollywood you had to be a triple threat of singing, dancing, and acting. Nowadays, actors are a lot more specialized with few being able to cross over into all three genres.

However, there are a few actors out there who can cut a mean rug.

Channing Tatum

It should be no surprise that the Magic Mike star knows how to move, but did you know he can tap dance as well?

Oscar Isaac

Personally, he’s my favorite actor going right now. He can play cool and crazy, funny and serious with deftness. He also knows how to tear up the dancefloor.

Sam Rockwell

Bring Back Musicals And Dancing In Movies

Look, I’m not the biggest fan of classic Hollywood but one thing I loved was dancing and singing in movies.

Now it seems we only see singing and dancing done by teeny boppers or whatever non-sense gets remade. La La Land was the last big-budget movie to actually predominately feature classic film singing and dancing. Clearly, there is an audience for it not just among the old but us younger folks, too.

But please no more remakes. Make something new and exciting people will want to see.

Do you think Tom Holland will play a good Fred Astaire? let us know in the comment below.
