Sergio Pettis has forever been the brother of Anthony Pettis.

But as Bellator bantamweight champion, Sergio is starting to carve out his own name.

Pettis defends his title at Bellator 272 against Kyoji Horiguchi live on Showtime this Friday night. The event takes place from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

This past May, Pettis won his first major promotional title when he bested Juan Archuleta via decision.

Pettis has scored four consecutive wins since a 2018 loss to current UFC title contender Rob Font. His resume shines bright with a win over reigning UFC champion Brandon Moreno.

During his run in the UFC, Pettis knocked off the likes of Moreno, Joseph Benavidez, John Moraga and went the distance with Henry Cejudo.

Before joining the UFC, Pettis won both the Resurrection Fighting Alliance and North American Fighting Championship belts in the flyweight and bantamweight divisions.

After concluding his run with the UFC in 2019 by besting Tyson Nam, Pettis signed with Bellator. He scored a first round submission of Alfred Khashakyan and added a decision over Ricky Bandejas to secure his shot at the belt.

At Bellator 258, Pettis handled Archuleta for five rounds, scoring a convincing decision.

Horiguchi is a stiff challenger, having previously held the Bellator title. He won that with a victory over Darrion Caldwell, and is also the current Rizin champion.

Like Pettis, he also has a past in the UFC having faced off against some of the best in the world.
