Weeks after the fatal shooting on the set of his movie Rust that killed Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza, actor Alec Baldwin is preparing to open up about what happened for the first time in an interview that is set to air on ABC tomorrow night.

Baldwin Breaks Down During Interview

During this interview with host George Stephanopoulos, Baldwin could not help but become emotional as he discussed the shooting and Hutchins.

You can see a preview in the tweeted video below:

“I think back, I think: ‘What could I have done?'” a visibly emotional Baldwin said in a teaser for the interview, according to Daily Mail

Baldwin also claimed that he did not pull the trigger, implying that the prop gun inexplicably fired on its own.

“The trigger wasn’t pulled, I didn’t pull the trigger,” he said as he wiped away tears. “I would never point a gun at anyone at point a trigger at them, never. It’s not yet known why the weapon was loaded with a real bullet. Someone put a live bullet in the gun – a bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property.”

Baldwin Discusses Halyna Hutchins

Baldwin also talked about Halyna Hutchins, saying that “she was someone who was loved by everyone who worked with and liked by everyone who worked with – and admired. Even now I find it hard to believe, it just doesn’t seem real to me.”

As for whether or not the shooting was the worst thing to ever happen to him, Baldwin said “Yes. Yes, yes.”

“As you can imagine he was devastated, but he was also very candid, was very forthcoming,” Stephanopoulos said of the interview, which lasts an hour.

“He answered every question. He talked about Halyna Hutchins, talked about meeting her family as well,” he added. “[He] went through in detail what happened on the set that day.”

Could Baldwin Face Charges?

Investigators are still looking into the shooting that took place on the film set. Police say the probe could last several weeks. Santa Fe County District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies told The New York Times last month that nothing is off the table at this point, including potential charges against Baldwin.

“We haven’t ruled out anything,” she said. “Everything at this point, including criminal charges, is on the table.”

Carmack-Altwies also took issue with Baldwin and crew members referring to the weapon that was used as a “prop-gun.”

“It was a legit gun,” she said. “It was an antique-era appropriate gun.”

Given the fact that he is one of the outspoken liberals in the world of Hollywood, Baldwin has long been seen as a controversial figure in the eyes of many Americans. It will certainly be interesting to see how this investigation plays out.
