Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards were set to square off at UFC 269.
An injury to Masvidal, though, scrapped the planned bout.
While Edwards has noted that he is ready to move on, Masvidal has other plans to do the same.
“If (Edwards) says no, then I’m going to pass,” he told The MMA Hour (thanks to MMA Fighting for the quotes). “Then Colby’s (expletive) ass it is.”
That would be Colby Covington who Masvidal is referring to.
For Masvidal, fighting healthy is the No. 1 priority after a pair of losses to Kamaru Usman for the UFC welterweight title.
“First time I’m coming off two losses, I’ve got to make sure I go in there healthy and well to give him my all,” Edwards said. “If he wants to wait until February or March, I can decapitate him on site for the world to see. If he doesn’t, what can I do? We will meet eventually.”
Edwards has been asking UFC officials to declare him the No. 1 contender to Usman. If they do, that would leave Masvidal and Covington as likely opponents for one another.
Rumors of a possible Ultimate Fighter season featuring Masvidal and Covington have also been floated around.
“I will have to see a nice, handsome reward if I’m doing shit like that,” Masvidal said. “Six weeks? You gotta pay me if you want to see folks train with ‘Gamebred.’ If not, leave me at home, training.”
