See Nicole Kidman As Lucille Ball In First Trailer For ‘Being The Ricardos’

The first trailer dropped this week for the movie Being The Ricardos, so fans got a glimpse of Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball for the very first time.

Being The Ricardos Trailer

Check out the trailer for yourself below.

The trailer features different scenes from the Aaron Sorkin-directed biopic, which also stars Javier Bardem as Desi Arnaz. Kidman narrates.

“I am the biggest asset in the portfolio of the Columbia Broadcasting System,” Kidman (as Ball) can be heard saying in a voiceover in the trailer. “The biggest asset in the portfolio of Philip Morris Tobacco, Westinghouse. I get paid a fortune to do exactly what I love doing. I work side-by-side with my husband who is genuinely impressed by me.”

“And all I have to do to keep it, is kill for 36 weeks in a row. And then do it again next year,” she adds. “You know, I did this show so Desi and I could be together. I had no idea it was going to be a hit.”

Controversy Over Casting

While there was much controversy over Kidman and Bardem being cast in these roles, Sorkin defended them as the “greatest actors ever” and he stood by casting them.

“I think that the people thought that we’ve cast them as Lucy and Ricky Ricardo,” Sorkin told Entertainment Tonight back in February.

“The film takes place during a production week of ‘I Love Lucy’ – a Monday table read to Friday audience taping, with a whole bunch of long flashbacks which are telling the story that got us here – and because there’s a table read, there’s rehearsals and then there’s tape night, we do see moments of them being Lucy and Ricky Ricardo,” he continued.

“But mostly they are playing Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball,” Sorkin explained. “And they’re going to be fantastic. These are two of the greatest actors ever.”

Kidman Speaks Out

Kidman has expressed her excitement at playing Ball, calling taking the role “a wonderful prospect.”

“I love Lucille, having looked now and delved into her,” Kidman told Variety. “She’s an amazing woman. I’m very excited for people to see what Aaron found out about her and the way he’s interpreted Desi and Lucy and the way that it’s so rich. I didn’t know any of this.”

Lucie Arnaz, the daughter of Ball, has endorsed Kidman’s portrayal of her mother.

“Nicole Kidman became my mother’s soul. She crawled into her head,” she said last week, according to CNN. “I don’t know how you do that. She cared very deeply about this part. It shows.”

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
