The Surprising Reason Queen Elizabeth And Prince Philip Loved ‘When Things Go Wrong’

In a new documentary that aired in the United Kingdom this week, members of the British royal family recalled their memories of Prince Philip after he passed away in April, just two months shy of his 99th birthday.

Prince William Recalls Philip’s Goofy Side

In this documentary, Prince William and Prince Harry describe a side of Philip that the public rarely got to see, which was his goofy side.

In fact, they said that Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth, who he was married to for 73 years, actually always loved it whenever things would go wrong.

“My grandpa has a very good sense of humor, and he enjoys playing practical jokes, he enjoys teasing, and he loved things going wrong,” William explained, according to Town And Country Magazine

“Both my grandparents love that, because you can imagine they live a life where everything has to go right the whole time, so when things go wrong, they both chuckle an awful lot. Everyone else gets mortally embarrassed, but they love it,” he added.

Prince Harry Agrees

Harry, who was interviewed separately from William, agreed with his brother on this.

“There’s just that imbalance of, there’s everybody doing their absolute best because ‘oh, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are coming, let’s make sure we get everything absolutely right’,” he said. “Yet the two of them are going “I wonder if something’s going to go wrong this year! How exciting!”

With their lives as Royals filled with endless protocols, it’s actually not surprising that the Duke and the Queen took pleasure in the moments when things went off the rails!

Harry Talks Memory Of Queen And Philip

In another moment in the documentary, Harry speculated about what the Queen, 95, would have been saying while flying aboard a plane piloted by Philip back in the day.

“He was doing all the flying himself, or certainly chunks of it. When you’re flying, you don’t get an easy pass just for being the Duke of Edinburgh. You very much have to put in the work and prove your skill,” Harry recalled, according to Daily Mail.

“But also he had an amazing privilege to get behind the controls and fly aircraft all around the world. I can just imagine my grandmother sitting in the back of a plane, having a cup of tea, going through turbulence and going, ‘Oh, Philip! What are you doing?’” he added.

It’s so nice to get to see a side of the Royals that we rarely are privy to!

These interviews serve as a reminder that though they are Royal, the Queen and her family really are people just like us.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
