Country music star Reba McEntire had to be rescued from an historic building in Oklahoma on Tuesday after a staircase collapsed.
KXII reported that McEntire, 66, was one of seven people who had to be rescued from a second-story window in Atoka, Oklahoma.
Travis Mullins, City of Atoka Emergency Management Director, explained that the staircase from the second to the third floor collapsed on top of the staircase from the first to the second floor, trapping everyone in the building on whatever floor that they were on.
“Oh it was pretty scary, I was worried about who was downstairs and how bad it was,” said Coby Scherrill, who was touring the building with McEntire for a future project. He did not elaborate any further on what exactly this project was.
“We were just touring the building and the stairwell was weak it seemed weak but we did not realize how weak it was until several people had gone down it and then we heard the crash and saw the stairs fall,” he recounted.

Firefighters had to help McEntire and everyone else who was trapped get out through a second-story window and down a ladder.
“Next thing I know she starts recording just trying to get video what’s going on and next thing you know we see Reba climbing down the ladder,” said Sara Jackson, who owns a restaurant across the street from the building.
“I thought when she said Reba I was like ‘oh lord Reba done got hurt, Reba’s done hurting” she’s like no EMS already checked on her so she’s fine, she’s fine,” she continued. “Hearing that she was okay was a complete relief on that part.”
Scherrill told reporters that the building was over 100 years-old.
“It opened our eyes to see exactly just how unsturdy they was and when they did collapse we see what little was holding them up,” Mullins said, adding that while one person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, everyone else was thankfully alright.

McEntire wrote about the rescue on Wednesday on Facebook.
“While my team and I were in Atoka, O[kla.,] yesterday checking out an old historical building, a staircase collapsed,” McEntire wrote. “Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. We were safely evacuated from the building thanks to the quick response from the Atoka fire and police departments.”
McEntire certainly had an eventful Tuesday that she will never forget!
We’re so glad that she and everyone else in the building made it through this ordeal safely.
