Monica Lewinsky, who is known for having an affair with Bill Clinton during her time as a White House intern in the 1990s, will be taking on cancel culture in her upcoming documentary 15 Minutes of Shame.
Lewinsky Discusses New Documentary
Lewinsky opened up about this documentary in an interview with the “Today” show this week.
After seeing her name and reputation be dragged through the mud for years, Lewinsky is somewhat of an expert on cancel culture. She was arguably one of the first public figures to experience “cancellation.”
Now an anti-bullying advocate, Lewinsky decided to explore the culture of public shaming that the world is currently in with this documentary.

The World Is ‘Drowning In Shame’
In her new interview, Lewinsky said that the world is currently “drowning in shame” thanks to cancel culture.
“It’s not just people in power who have voices, that’s one of the beauties and the beasts of social media,” she explained, according to Fox News. “More people can be heard.”
“We’re living in a culture and world now where we’re drowning in shame,” Lewinsky said. “We’re taking a 360 look at this culture of public shaming, public humiliation culture and trying to ask the question, ‘Where are we going?’”
Variety reported in 2019 that Lewinsky was teaming up with the reality television show “Catfish” co-host and producer Max Joseph to produce this documentary for HBO Max.
The documentary will profile multiple people who, like Lewinsky, were the subject of public criticism and humiliation.
“Monica Lewinsky is an anti-bullying activist with unparalleled authority, making her the perfect partner for this project,” Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for HBO Max, said at the time. “And Max’s strong advocacy for social justice and distinctive storytelling make him particularly well-suited to explore this complex modern phenomenon.”

Lewinsky’s Message To Other ‘Cancelled’ People
Lewinsky wants other people who have been “cancelled” to know that while it seems hard at times, she has gotten through it and found happiness, so they can, too.
“I think the takeaway of anyone watching this who is struggling or feels like they’ve been shamed is that you can get through it,” she said.
One of the reasons that Lewinsky has found happiness is that she no longer feels like she needs an apology from Clinton.
“If I had been asked five years ago, there would have been a part of me that needed something – that still wanted something,” she said. “Not any kind of relationship, but a sense of closure or maybe understanding. And I feel incredibly grateful not to need any of that.”
There are few people on this earth who would have as unique a perspective on cancel culture as Lewinsky does!
It will certainly be interesting to see her documentary on this culture when it finally comes out.
