Katherine Schwarzenegger opened up about how getting pre-marital counseling through the Catholic Church helped make her marriage to actor Chris Pratt stronger.

Schwarzenegger Discusses Premarital Counseling

While appearing on the “Meaning Full Living” podcast on Monday, Schwarzenegger admitted that she didn’t know what to think at first when she learned that couples need to get premarital counseling before getting married in the Catholic Church.

“Before we got married in the Catholic Church, you have to do premarital counseling before you get married, and I was like, ‘Oh, my God, what is that going to be like?’ And it was the most amazing thing and just the most amazing gift,” said Schwarzenegger, 31. “I know not everybody does [it], of course, because … if they don’t tell you you have to do it then why would you?”

Schwarzenegger, who has now been married to Pratt for two years, was shocked by how much the counseling made their bond stronger.

Counseling Strengthens Schwarzenegger And Pratt’s Bond

“When we had this experience of going to premarital counseling to get married in the Catholic Church it was such an amazing gift in our relationship ahead of getting married that we’ve definitely wanted to continue throughout our relationship and has been such a helpful thing to be able to have in our relationship of having that guidance,” she said.

Schwarzenegger went on to explain that the church’s counseling helped open up their communication styles in a way that gave them the perfect foundation for a strong marriage.

“Talking about things that maybe we wouldn’t necessarily have talked about before getting married, talk about things that couples of 10 or 15 years still don’t like to talk about with one another. Being prompted to talk about those things is also a really helpful thing to do early on,” she said. “That I think helps us.”

Schwarzenegger And Pratt Welcome Baby Girl

Schwarzenegger has previously said that becoming parents to their daughter Lyla only brought her and Pratt closer. Lyla turns 1 next month.

“Obviously when you’re able to have that experience with your significant other, it’s such a beautiful experience and a beautiful journey and a great bonding experience as well,” she previously told US Weekly. “I feel really blessed to be able to have that as part of this journey. To experience that day by day is really incredible.”

“But also being able to do things together with the baby is also really special,” she added. “Getting familiar and comfortable in the kitchen is a big part of that for us as well.”

In a time when the vast majority of celebrities seem to want nothing to do with Christianity, it’s refreshing to see a couple like Pratt and Schwarzenegger being so open about how the power of Christ has helped their marriage.

We wish them the best of luck as a couple and family in the years to come!
