Grammy award winning singer Macy Gray is doubling down after she made headlines over the weekend for penning an op-ed in which she argued that the United States needs to create a new American flag because Old Glory is racist and has “replaced” the Confederate flag.
“It no longer represents ALL of us,” Gray wrote. “It’s not fair to be forced to honor it. It’s time for a new flag.”
OPINION: "Sixty-two years later, in 2021, we have changed and it’s time for a reset, a transformation. One that represents all states and all of us," writes singer Macy Gray. https://t.co/VTezKfjxdr

Gray Doubles Down
Despite receiving tons of backlash for her op-ed, Gray has proceeded to double down in a new interview in which she went even further in trashing the current American flag.
“Why do we have to celebrate a flag that now represents divisiveness and hate?” Gray told Fox 11.
“I shouldn’t have to salute it, I shouldn’t have to honor it, I shouldn’t have to pledge to it,” the “I Try” singer said. “All I’m saying is let’s redesign the flag for the rest of us who aren’t a part of that tribe.”
Not stopping there, Gray attempted to link this back to the Capitol riot, which has become a favorite talking point for liberals everywhere.
“The people there [the January 6 protests] held it up as their symbol, as this is what America represents,” she said, going on to take on the personas of the rioters when she said, “‘We’re threatening to hang the vice president, and our gang sign is the flag.'”
Gray’s New American Flag Idea
Gray even has an idea for a design for the new flag, saying that it should contain 52 stars so that it includes Puerto Rico and Washington D.C. She also wants all the stars to be multi-shaded so that all skin colors are represented, staying away from the color white as much as possible.
“What if the stripes were OFF-white?” Gray wrote in her op-ed. “What if there were 52 stars to include D.C. and Puerto Rico? What if the stars were the colors of ALL of us — your skin tone and mine — like the melanin scale?”
Unsurprisingly, she stood by this in her new interview, although she added that the colors red and blue will be welcomed in her new flag.
“We want to keep the red and blue because the red stands for courage, the blue stands for vigilance, integrity and all these things and then there’s the white, which the Smithsonian says means purity,” Gray explained. “So, I’m saying, which I don’t think anyone can disagree with me on this is that America is not exactly pure.”
This Is Both Sad And Disturbing
It’s both sad and disturbing that this kind of anti-American nonsense is not only tolerated, but celebrated in society these days.
There are those who support Gray’s ideas:
Seems many of those who are angry at Macy Gray talking about redesigning the American flag don’t seem as angry about the insurrectionists who used that very American flag as a weapon during the attempted coup + insurrection on our Capitol on Jan 6th.#NeverForgetJanuary6th

I don’t even know who this Macy Gray is. So, in my world, that means that SHE must be insignificant, “tattered” and very “dated.”

And, there are those who stand strong for Old Glory:
Macy Gray calls for replacing 'tattered, dated, divisive' American flag….
The American flag isn’t “divisive” it represents us all because the only colors that matter to REAL AMERICANS are RED, WHITE, and BLUE!
Old Glory isn’t going ANYWHERE!

🇺🇸 Singer Macy Gray is trying to use her platform and status to call for the replacement of the United States Flag and saying it's time we have a new one. This is too much and I'm angered….again.

Cancel Macy Gray and anyone else that has a problem with the American Flag.

Liberals like Gray have no respect for our flag and for those who have fought and died for it. It comes as no surprise that they now want it gone.
Here’s hoping that they never get their way, and that the current American flag is here to stay!
