A day of fun at a racetrack turned deadly when a fight and shooting broke out in the parking lot at Dragway 42 leaving an Ohio man is dead. A video captured the event which shows how situations can change in the course of a minute. 

An altercation with a drunk driver in the parking lot of an Ohio racetrack led to a shooting in which police believe 20 shots were fired. Video clips and witness statements helped investigators make one arrest. Police are seeking more information that may lead to additional arrests.

Witnesses claim it all started when a man was using his pickup truck to perform burnouts after boozing it up at Dragway 42 in Wayne County.

A crowd gathered around and the intoxicated man was confronted. But, nobody expected what happened next. 

Video Shows Panic

A fight broke out and people ran for their lives after a man grabbed a gun from his car and began firing. Tempers flared, leaving one man dead and another injured after what was supposed to be a fun day.

The first shot can be heard in the video. Then, many more shots can be heard as people make a mad dash from the scene. 

Wayne County Sheriff’s Department Cpt. Doug Hunter said another person with a concealed handgun license retrieved his gun and returned fire at the shooter. 

Luis Cuevas of Cleveland was killed. Cuevas worked tirelessly on his car to get it ready for the Import Face-Off event that day.

He reportedly was a bystander who just wanted to load up his car and go home when he was shot.

 He never made it back home.

Arrest Made In Dragway 42 Shooting

Jonathan Paul Roman Perez, also of Cleveland, was charged with with felonious assault in the case.

He is currently hospitalized with injuries he received in the shooting. The video and witness statements led police to Perez. 

After he is released from the hospital, Perez will be transported to the Wayne County Jail. Police believe more arrests may be coming because Perez wasn’t the one driving the gray truck.

“I am pleased with the progress we have made with this case but there is more work to be done and the possibility of additional charges as well as defendants, remains,” Sheriff Travis Hutchinson said. “While violent incidents such as this are rare in Wayne County, we approach these investigations with the goal of obtaining the truth.”

Such a tragedy that a day of fun at the racetrack turned out to be a nightmare.
