Matthew McConaughey governor

Over the past few months, rumors have swirled that actor Matthew McConaughey is planning to run for governor of Texas, and he’s been open about considering it.

Golden Globe winner Kate Hudson, who starred alongside Matthew McConaughey in the romantic comedies How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Fool’s Gold, shared her thoughts on McConaughey’s chances of winning. And, she thinks his chances are good!

Hudson Shocked By Potential McConaughey Run

While appearing on Rob Lowe’s “Literally!” podcast, Hudson was blindsided when asked about McConaughey’s potential gubernatorial run.

“Here’s the real question. You’ve done multiple movies with Matthew McConaughey. He’s a national treasure. Are you going to help him with his campaign for governor of Texas if he so decides to run?” Lowe asked.

“That was a long pause,” he added after Hudson remained quiet. “Can I just say for the record, that was a very long pause.”

“Sorry, hold on. Let me just take a sip of my [drink]. I have not heard this. This is the first I’m hearing of McConaughey getting into politics,” a clearly stunned Hudson said before pausing again. “Let’s, OK. So, what would I help? I mean, I guess it depends on what kind of, you know, platform he’s running on.”

She Thinks He Has A ‘Real Chance’ Of Winning

“He’s a really interesting guy,” she added. “I, honestly, if he does want to get into politics, I believe that Matthew, you probably wouldn’t get a politician who would care as much as he does, you know? I think he’s very authentic in how much heart… But the governor of Texas is a big job. I mean, is that what we’re talking about? The governor of Texas?”

“Governor of Texas, baby!” Lowe replied, adding, “If he doesn’t use ‘Alright, alright, alright’ as a bumper sticker, then everybody on that staff needs to be fired!”

“I think he’d encourage that,” Hudson said, before getting serious as she added. “But I actually feel like he’d have a real chance.”

Running For Governor ‘A True Consideration’ For McConaughey

When asked in March if he’s planning to run for governor, McConaughey admitted that “it’s a true consideration.”

McConaughey went on to say that his consideration for running or governor is part of a bigger thought process that involves trying to figure out what he wants his next stage of life to look like.

“I’m looking into now again, what is my leadership role?” said McConaughey. “Because I do think I have some things to teach and share, and what is my role? What’s my category in my next chapter of life that I’m going into?”

While McConaughey has yet to reveal if he would run as a Republican or Democrat, he’s come off as a moderate in the past who has been critical of both rightwing and leftwing ideologies at times.

It will certainly be interesting to see what will happen if he does indeed run for governor!
