Bautista revealed that there was a good reason why he refused a role in the hit film. According to the wrestler turned Hollywood actor, he wanted to build a relationship with Netflix.

Bautista called up James Gunn himself and explained why he had to refuse the role. However, it did give him the opportunity to join Army of the Dead.

“I get to build a relationship with Netflix, I get a lead role in a great film – and I get paid a lot more money. I had to call James, and I told him, ‘It breaks my heart, because as a friend, I want to be there with you, but professionally, this is the smart decision for me.’”

Since Netflix is one of the biggest movie bases, it is a smart decision on Bautista’s end. After all, everyone turns to Netflix today to look at the recent releases.

The pandemic only increased the success of Netflix. After all, most cinemas closed their doors around the world to stop the spread of COVID.

Netflix has become bigger and better than ever. So, actors who can find their way to a successful movie on this platform could have it made for many years to come.

Of course, this does not meant the end of Guardians of the Galaxy or other box office hits Bautista was a part of. 

Spin-Off Rumors

Since the start of the pandemic, Guardians of the Galaxy has come to a screeching halt. However, the movie is now set to enter cinemas in 2023.

There have also been some rumors about a spin-off including Drax and Mantis. However, Hollywood confirmed this spin-off will not be happening.

Bautista also recently spoke about the spin-off rumors in an interview.

“There were talks for a while about a Drax and Mantis film. It was really because it was James Gunn’s idea. He really wanted to do a Drax and Mantis film. He laid it out to me. I thought it was such a brilliant idea, but I haven’t heard any follow-up from the studio. I don’t think they’re very interested, or it doesn’t fit into the way they have things mapped out. But other than that, no. I mean, as far as my obligations, I’ve got Guardians 3, and that’s probably going to be the end of Drax.”

Drax and Mantis will appear in Thor: Love and Thunder. Unfortunately, it does seem like there will be no more Drax after this appearance.

Army of the Dead will be released in cinemas for a short period of time, starting from May 14th. However, the movie will run exclusively on Netflix on May 21.

So, anyone who does not feel safe going to the cinema yet because of the current pandemic will be able to watch the movie on Netflix. A Guardians of the Galaxy special is also due to release in 2022.
