1. Retirement

One of the most intriguing backstage stories surrounding Beth Phoenix is about her retirement. After all, not many fans saw her retirement coming.
Beth Phoenix retired from pro wrestling much earlier than most people expected. And her reason for retirement was quite different from most female wrestlers today.
Glamazon Beth Phoenix actually retired because she was unhappy with the role of female wrestlers within the WWE. Years later, she would return to the company as a commentator.
2. Dating After Retirement

One of the best-known backstage stories surrounding Beth Phoenix is that she is married to Edge. However, not everyone realizes that Beth and Edge did not start dating until after their retired.
Both Beth and Edge dated other people during their active wrestling career. However, it was not until they retired that they started dating each other.
Beth and Edge started dating in 2011 and their daughter Lyric was born in 2013. Their second daughter was born in May 2016.
Edge and Beth eventually married in 2016 and are still together.
3. Dream Match

There are many women who would love to have a match with Beth Phoenix. However, one of the more iconic ones at the moment is none other than Charlotte Flair.
While promoting a show, Charlotte revealed Beth Phoenix is one of her dream opponents. Since Beth retired in her prime, it is something that could happen in the future.
Women’s wrestling looks much different today than a good 10 years ago. So, maybe Beth can finally get the women’s match and spot she always wanted in the company while she was an active wrestler.
4. Everything For Wrestling

Beth Phoenix actually decided to quit her existing job in favor of wrestling. After all, her job at the time did not give her the opportunity to take time off.
Phoenix actually quit her job so she could enter WWE Tough Enough. But in spite of quitting her job, she actually did not make it onto the show that year.
Nevertheless, her dedication to the wrestling craft eventually paid off. Now, Phoenix is a genuine Hall of Famer.
5. Wise Beyond Her Years

Beth Phoenix always had a good grasp on the wrestling business. And this did not escape Triple H either.
Since her return as a commentator on NXT, Triple H praised Phoenix’ wrestling acumen. In fact, he confirmed the WWE could benefit greatly from her knowledge.
While Phoenix may have retired well before her time, she knows the business inside and out. And nobody can deny that Beth Phoenix has added a lot more value to the NXT brand as a whole.
But maybe she will make a brief return to wrestling as well?
6. Her Relationship With CM Punk

Before marrying Edge, Beth Phoenix dated several other wrestlers. One of these wrestlers was CM Punk.
Things between CM Punk and Beth Phoenix seemed to end rather poorly. Later on, CM Punk said the following in an interview, of which fans believed was about Beth Phoenix.
“It pisses me off to watch people you love and admire become complete d*****bags. That’s what it is. People just flake.”
Despite the statement, Beth Phoenix has never really retaliated against CM Punk. That shows some real class.
7. Chyna And Beth Phoenix

Beth Phoenix was only the second woman in history to enter an all men’s match. Needless to say, this brought Phoenix incredible recognition and fame.
Of course, Phoenix is not the only one who was a trailblazer in that field. Chyna was the first woman to enter an all men’s match.
According to Phoenix, Chyna was one of the biggest influencers in her career. In fact, she watched Chyna entering an all men’s match before she broke through in the pro wrestling business.
Needless to say, Chyna will always have a special place in the heart of Phoenix.
8. Santino Marella

The storyline between Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix was not supposed to last as long as it did. After all, the company did not think the story would be such a success.
Marella and Phoenix were supposed to be a quick comedy act. But soon enough, fans were finding themselves fascinated by the couple.
In the end, the pair would win the Intercontinental Championship and the Women’s Championship. Needless to say, the matchup was most certainly one of the biggest successes for both wrestlers involved.
9. The Match That Never Was

During his time as a WWE writer, Freddie Prinze Jr. saw a lot of future storylines. This also included a storyline between Awesome Kong and Beth Phoenix.
Awesome Kong was supposed to end the championship reign of Michelle McCool. This was going to catapult her as a dominant heel champion.
After some time, Beth Phoenix was meant to dethrone Awesome Kong. Unfortunately, the storyline never happened.
Freddie Prinze Jr. claimed that Michelle McCool was not too fond of the idea. In the end, the storyline was axed and the match between Awesome Kong and Phoenix never happened.
10. The Spear

When Edge made his surprise appearance at SummerSlam 2019, he ended up spearing Elias. Interestingly enough, Beth Phoenix had no idea this was going to happen.
Edge retired years earlier with serious neck problems. So, when Beth Phoenix was caught on camera backstage, her surprise was just as big as everyone else.
The appearance in 2019 eventually led to Edge’s permanent return to pro wrestling. Of course, it also showed just how much of a secret the WWE kept the spear within its own ranks.
Maybe Beth can make a similar surprise return and have another run in WWE?
